The detailing on this bag is gorgeous. Just beautiful. But the smell? It's so obvious that this thing is vintage, it's disgusting. The least they could have done was wash it before embellishing it. It smells as though the previous owner sweat on it, perhaps urinated on it, and then left it in his attic for ten years. I kid you not. When I opened it, I gagged - and decided that I couldn't even hold on to it long enough to mail it back because that would mean keeping it overnight until I could ship it tomorrow (today is Christmas). So I rushed to the washing machine and tossed it in with bleach and a ton of soap and am washing it on hot (inside out so that the embellishments don't get damaged.) I'll let you know how it turns out....

Washing it did the trick. Honestly, ninety percent of the bad smell is gone. I am now drying it with some scented fabric softeners to take care of what's left, and again I've tucked in the embellishments to protect them. As long as none of them come off and the bag doesn't warp in the dryer, I'm good. It turned out all right. So the question is - why didn't they wash it in the first place?
