This dress was returned at my local Free People & I bought it but will be returning it. I agree with the two earlier reviewers about the volume of fabric. I am tall (5'11) & fairly slim but still felt overwhelmed by the amount of fabric. I got the M & I usually get a L, being a size 12. While the M fit, the dress was a bit short, hitting me at the shortest point about the knee. Although it looked OK, I really believe due to the amount of fabric in the skirt that it would be more flattering a few inches longer. The color is somewhat muted too, which I like, as I am pale & a harsh black washes me out.

I really love the way this dress looks online, but in person, it's a little underwhelming. The fabric is a little duller and while the asymmetrical hem and the stitching are cute, the mass of fabric sort of overwhelmed my figure. I'm curvy, and yes, it does cut under the bust in a way that's more figure flattering than shapeless dresses, but I think it's just too much fabric if you carry any extra weight. If you're tall and willowy like the model, I think it will look good. I also think it's way too expensive for what you're getting. Mine is, unfortunately, going back.

I am petite and figured this would probably be too big on me; the deep surplice necklines generally are, but I loved the gold embroidery on the edges. Unless I were to take it in in the shoulders, it's just too big. It would be great for a tall person though. The material is a good quality cotton.
