I had to get these the moment I saw them. There is nothing like them out there. There are flares but not FLARES! THe material is lighweight and the color is a nice faded 70"s blue. They look like they have been your favorite pair and keep getting better as they age. They do fit a little big. I usually wear a 28 in Jbrand and True Religion but these are a little loose in the waist. If you are wanting the tighter in the thigh then flare effect, these are not like that. They fit more like a wideleg flare, sorta like the Hudson's wideleg trouser pants.
My only complaint is that Free People needs to have a word with their quality control department. When I received my jeans they were simply balled up and taped poorly in the original packaging. It was an obvious return. If they had not been sold out I would have returned them. But now I will just have to wash them 5 times to make sure the yuck factor is gone. I mean, Really! They weren't even folded, just waded up. This wasn't the first time this has happened. When people pay what Free People charges for their clothing, the least you could do is REFOLD the item before you send it.

These are fun flares! I wanted them to drape nicely and ended up ordering three pairs, 24 (regular size) 25, and 26, all fit:) but i found the 24 and 25 did not give me that flowy look i was chasing. so 26 i s for me, size up two sizes in my experiences. Got the london fog and it is a delicious lavenderish gray.
I am short 5'4'' 100 lbs and end up shortening pants with a raw edge a lot, so here is how i do it, in case you need them shorter, unless you choose a tailor, but truly there is no need to in this case:
The trick is that find a length that works with the shoes you wear, ..because the worst is to wear these too short...mmmm, trust me on this on, plus you want them as long as possible because of the weight of the fabric will make them drape so much better. BUt know that once you wash and cut they cannot be returned, so be sure, very sure:)
..i wear quite the range; flats, sandals, converse, boots with 1-1.5'' heel, kork ease with 2 1/2 platform and that's about it. so before putting the scissors i would recommend to use the longest length and pre-wash and tumble: cut after you washed (at your normal wash temp for 100% cotton jeans) and tumbled them (you need to tumble afterwards to get the frayed edge back)
Once you treated them you are good to go...work on a flat surface thats a little elevated, an IKEA kitchen island is perfect.use a ruler and make little dots at the distance form the bottom of the fringe that you need to remove, i my case, it would be 3'' with these flares. at about 4-5'' distance between the dots, then -connect the dots right through the lower third of the dots, cut so you remove the marker-line (thats why you make the line right under the center of the dots. take a deep breath, cut as careful as you can, then wash and tumble as before and you can wear them! My trick to wear with flats, converse and sandals is to fold down the lining..that hitches your flares up about one inch. phew this was a long one, hope it helps:)

I had to troll returns for these - have had them for a couple of months. OH my GOSH! They rock hard in a very funky place. Just get them. I wish these were made in a different fabric so I could have 5 pairs. They are long. They are comfortable. I get comments about them every time I wear them because there are no other pants like these. I cannot say enough about how great these pants are. Except, once again, I have to hide them from myself. OH, they are so soft. I promise not to wear them today?

by nyexile Exactly like the jeans I had when I was 15!
I admit: my family (especially my 18-year-old daughter, but also my 50-something husband) laughs at me when I put these on. My daughter just finds the jeans hilarious (why is the bellbottom part SO big?) but my husband thinks it's funny that I am trying to look the way I did nearly 40 years ago. I don't care. I have been nostalgic for the jeans of my teens ever since the last pair disintegrated. (For the record, I was 15 in 1970, and these really are exactly--in every way, down to the thinness of the jean fabric--like the jeans I wore every day back then.) They make me incredibly happy. (Oh, I should mention that I'm 5' 2" and I had to cut off about a foot of fabric at the bottom (but it doesn't matter. They come frayed, and now they're refrayed after one washing. And as you can see, they are still VERY gigantically flared.)

by errd SO soft and light weight!
I got these in my normal size 26 and I think they fit perfectly and have a good amount of stretch to it. I am 5'3 so I hacked a few good inches off to make the height perfect.. since these are rugged looking with raw seams I don't think cutting them yourself will ruin their appeal. I have a 25" waist 33" hip bone and 36" hip. These jeans are so soft and are so airy when you walk. Looks much better in person on me than my photos!

these are some totally awesome jeans! mine also arrived in a ball, so i'm pretty sure they all come that way and it doesn't mean they were returns. the material is so light and soft that it's not even that wrinkled after being all scrunged up. they fit _exactly_ true to size, which means they're quite fitted at the waist and hips, and i'd probably have preferred sizing up if i had the choice. of course the flare is the most awesome part. you can tell the amount of material there is from the 4th picture. i'm 5'3", and they're really long on me, but i didn't quite want to cut into them yet, and with giant platforms, they just grace the ground. oh and the button closure is a snap button. i love them! best item from the april catalog! buy them if they ever come back in stock!
