by LadyMantis Not the best fit for an hourglass figure
Let me preface this by saying that I LOVE my dress and am not returning it at all. This is because I finally figured out what size was best for me. Yes, the other reviews are true, it is on the looser side in general. If, however, you have a large chest and large hips like me, you are probably going to struggle with wondering which size is best for you. the main problem I would say with this dress is that the dropped hemline is perhaps a tad too low to be super flattering on anyone with hips. I went with the xs at first because I read the previous reviews about how large this dress runs and it did fit me...but the stretchy material of the torso (yes, the entire torso is stretchy which is why I believe it runs so large) made my hips really stand out just above the hemline. And even though I don't normally have muffin top (I literally have a TINY layer of fat and then just wide hip bones), it made me appear as though I did. At first, I was really disappointed. I had really wanted to love this dress. Then I wondered if sizing up would be a good solution. I tried on a small because hey, it wasn't like it would take me a long time, and lo and behold, that was the solution! Again, the fit of this dress is pretty strange. If you notice even on the model wearing the color dress I have (the red and black combo) even HER hip bones poke out and she's probably way skinnier than I am (reference I am 32 DDD, waist 26). Also, if you notice in the catalogue the model wearing this dress is holding her arms in front of her so that her hip bones are obscured. I think Free People was maybe trying to hide that flaw in the design. Again though, I found that by going with the bigger of my two normal sizes at free people (a small, as opposed to an extra small), that largely solved the problem. Granted, it is still a bit loose in the torso, but it's still really cute! And my hipbones don't make me look like I have muffin top! Hooray! So what's my suggestion? If I were you, I wouldn't order this online if you can help it. Try and find a Free People store that stocks this dress and TRY IT ON THERE. I always find that's a good idea in general with Free People stuff anyway because their sizing seems to be wonky much of the time.
Rated 3 out of 5Â by FPKaraK ADORABLE...but large in the bust/waist
I really wanted to love this. I love that the patterns are different at the different pieces of material. My only vice with this number is that the top and stomach area are too large. I assumed that since ti was clinched and smocked at the waist, it would be super tight there and flouncy in the skirt. Even the XS on me was not tight at all. It was also very large in the bust. I am a 32B, 5'6" 110lbs and 24" waist, 34.5" hips. I felt very uncomfy in this dress. Oh well. If you are a bit thicker then me it will prob look great on , but this is not for small framed gals It has to be pinned on the studio models. ! :-/

This easy sexy little summertime dress is so cute... it fits like a glove (5'1"...xs...95lbs)...the top is nicely fitted & the mini skirt swings so flirty when you walk...I think its so adorable, I ordered one in black too...the color scheme is beautiful & works perfectly with a denim shirt tied at the waist or a fab denim jacket...(PS...& you can wear it backwards too, with the V in the front...who knew?...) Free People rocks!
Rated 4 out of 5Â by Anniwa Cute but short!
I ordered an XS due to the "runs large" reviews. I wear a 34B and normally a size 6; it fits perfectly around. The material isn't soft but I wouldn't call it uncomfortable in any way. But... this dress is SHORT! I'm 5'6". It's the perfect length in front but maybe 4" shorter in the back. One inch shorter and you'd see my undies. Great if you have no curves and skinny legs but for me... I won't be leaving the house in it. I fear that exchanging for a small to help the length would be too large around. So I plan to keep it and use for loungewear...

 by flyingpixie Love this dress!
I'm a little confused by the other reviews on this dress, as they seem to vary quite significantly. I'm glad I bought the dress (via online store) before reading the reviews, or else I would have been too confused to even think about purchasing it.
I am 5'4", 105lbs, bought the XS and it fits great! I am sure it could certainly fit tighter, but it by no means looks overly baggy and I am very flat chested. I put a wide high waisted belt with the white and yellow version and it looks adorable. I definitely prefer the dress with a belt.
Other than that, it is SUPER comfy and I may just have to buy the black and red one, since I will probably be wearing them all summer long!

I was disappointed to get this dress in the mail. It looks very cheap and poorly constructed. it's going back to FP.

I'm usually not a fan of smocking, but I love it on this dress. I got the black size small, my usual FP size and it wasn't too tight or too loose. It looks amazing in person, and it will definitely transition nicely for fall. Unfortunately, the first time I wore it the strap broke. It's an easy fix, but I expected better construction for the price. Overall though I'm very pleased and would definitely recommend this dress, especially at the sale price!

had my eye on this dress all summer. i died when it went on sale. I got it in ivory, the black is just as beautiful. mine is a S, but yesss it is a tad big. not a problem for me though. Haven't worn it out yet. but needless to say, when spring rolls around again, i'll have my first go-to piece
