This skirt runs very small in comparison with most of FP's Sizing. The waistband has no give, and neither does the fitted mini skirt - so expect it to be tight unless you order up.
Because there is so much gathering at the waist, you need to do something to empahsize your waist - whether belting it, wearing a skinny shirt, etc - unless you happen to be model thin anyway - because poofiness from the waist down can tend to look unflattering to anything other than a stick-thin figure.
I'm curvy, but firm, and I kept the skirt, opting to slim downt he waist with some wide funky cincher belts that I have - and it's adorable that way - but you really have to pick and choose what you wear it with because of this unflattering feature.

I purchased this skirt in the red/black combo, and it looks pretty close to what you see online. The fabric is soft and very substantial, not thin like some of the flannel fabrics that FP uses for their shirts. The skirt itself is very well made. The waistband does not have any stretch to it, so go with your natural waistline. The mini skirt portion is short and fitted, and the overlay is gathered and very full when it is on. Super cute and flowy. Not as Christmasy as I thought it would look, and is perfect for transitioning into fall and winter.

I am SO sad to have to return this. Its very very soft but its also extremely heavy. Could be nice for winter but I feel like its just a bit too warm for fall. That's not really a big deal I'd probably keep it if the fit were better. It is really really really small. I am almost always a medium for things at free people. I guess because its not a made by Free People but some other brand this made a huge difference. I dont even think sizing up to a large would make that much of a difference. Great shape and everything otherwise. I wish it had a stretch waistband instead of zipper. OH WELL.

This skirt is good quality, great style, lightweight but warm enough for English autumn. However it runs very small compared to other skirts from FP. I could see as soon as I got it out of the bag that it wouldn't fit, and didn't even try it on. The waist is fixed, no stretch, and in the L I ordered measures fractionally over 30" all round and the mini part is quite straight and small on the hips (way narrower than the straight & fitted LA Lady denim skirt in 31" size). I am UK 14/16, US 10/12, FP M/L. So this is more like UK 12/14, US 8/10, FP S/M. The FP size chart has body measurement natural waist 31", so you would expect the garment measurement to be a little bigger that this, and my other size L FP skirts are markedly bigger. For reference in case it helps others:
Mad Cool skirt in large 33" + stretch,
Mi Amore skirt large 34", Back & Forth skirt large 34", Gambler skirt L 31"+ small amount of stretch (I mistakenly wrote that it has no stretch in my review of it, apologies FP, wish I could edit it, I meant to say that although it is elastic, it doesn't have as much stretch as you would expect from an elastic waist). I also have the Delhi Dreams skirt in MEDIUM: 33" waist + a little stretch, and the Lydia skirt in medium: waist 30" + tons of stretch. This isn't a biased sample, I haven't sent back other Ls that were smaller than the ones I kept. I'm just listing these in case other ladies have them too and can compare if considering the Misile plaid. If I had known how much smaller than other skirts in L and even M from FP I have, I would not have ordered it, so it's a little wasteful of time and FP's money to ship it to England and back. The L is Misile label's own sizing but I think there needs to be a note on the FP site to indicate that it runs at least a size small in FP terms. Otherwise: beautiful skirt, cute style, gorgeous vibrant colour to brighten up drab days.
