I am 5'5" and wear a U.S. 10/12 (size large) and a 36 C bra. I went in to the closest Free People store to try this on as soon as they got a shipment of them in. Although I am a size large in most brands, I find that I tend to size down to a medium with Free People. With this skirt though, I sized down 2 sizes, all the way down to a small. The waistband is really big. The ties seem to be more for show and don't really serve much of a purpose as far as making the skirt tighter is concerned. This skirt has everything that I love in a garment: it's airy, white, flowy, lacey.... However, I find that it is a little too baggy to wear high waisted. So, I pulled it down to my hips and noticed that the garment makes me look a little wider than I'd like. For someone like me who has hips and a butt, this piece doesn't look quite as cute as it does on the model whose hip to waist ratio seems to be pretty even. So, I'm still trying to decide whether the fact that this is aesthetically my dream skirt outweighs the fact that the shape doesn't look quite as flattering on me as a shorter skirt or a less straight up and down skirt might. I bought the Heart of Gold Maxi Skirt and loved it. This skirt just has a completely different cut. If you are more of a straight up and down body type (i.e. model/hanger body), grab this one because it's going to look great on you. If you have hips like I do, just know that while it won't be the most flattering skirt you can buy for your body type, it is still made of some really beautiful materials. And really, why should we give a sh** about looking "thin"? If you love it, then try it! Maybe with a top that covers the hip area, it won't look quite as frumpy...

I tried this in the store and was very excited but it turned out, like the others said, way way way too big. It could literally fall off my hips to the floor. What is going on, FP? How can your sizing be so inconsistent? This skirt is beautiful and I'm sure many petite girls would appreciate if you adjusted the sizing and re-released it! Please consider it!
Rated 4 out of 5Â by Anniwa cute - sizing depends on how you want it to fit
I bought this skirt in two colors - super cute! And at 5'6" the length is just fine for me. However, re: the sizing... after reading all the reviews, I sized down and ordered an XS vs. my usual S. It's been on backorder so I went to the store today and they had both sizes and both fit fine depending on how I wanted to wear it. The skirt hits high on the models - above the belly button - and for this fit, you definitely want to size down as the reviews say. However, I prefer it to fit just barely below the belly button - much sexier - so I preferred the small, true to size. Hope that helps anyone trying to decide which size to order.

by photofab My skirt fell apart after a few hours!
I ordered this skirt in the orange color and was so excited when it arrived in time to take on my overseas vacation - but the happiness turned to disappointment in a matter of hours!! I wore the skirt for the very first time to the airport and after just standing in line and sitting in the lounge the lace striping began to tear away from the fragile base material. By the time I was on the plane I could feel drafts on my legs from several large rips in the skirt and by the time I arrived at my destination the skirt was unwearable (and unrepairable without using about 10 sewing kits & hours of time!!). So the skirt remained in the bottom of my suitcase for the entire trip and now that I'm home I don't know what to do because it sounds like the orange, size small, is sold out... I don't even know if I would want another one if it's made the same way. I love so many of my FP items but this was definitely not worth the money and a true let down.
Rated 5 out of 5Â by Lovemesomefreepeople FABULOUS but yes, runs large
I got this skirt AND FELL IN LOVE, I got a medium even though I am small, so it would be longer and I could wear it low on my hips, not high like pictured, the weight of te skirt pulls it down, and it does run large, I did not want to have to send it back, and wait for another so i simply took it in just at the waist, took me 5 minutes, and its ADORABLE and comfy, this is MY GO TO skirt for this summer!!!
I am almost 46 years old and I WILL ROCK THESE CLOTHES until i am too old to dress myself!

I purchased the XS in ivory. It's such a beautiful skirt, but I don't know why FP maxi skirts and dresses make me look so stumpy and wide. It is also a bit loose for an XS so I'm not sure how they made the skirt so tight on the model when she is skinnier than me. I tried tightening it by tying the corset strings tighter, but that didn't do anything to change the fit of the skirt. I'm a bit heartbroken this didn't work out. :(

I received this skirt in coral today. The background coral color is pretty close to the online images, and the crochet trim parts are a lot brighter like a very fresh salmon pink. Super twirly girly skirt that is very comfortable and light on...perfect for summer! The lining is made of the same crinkled gauze and comes about midthigh on me, and the skirt is unfinished on the bottom. I'm a petite at 5'2" and the bottom hemline touches the floor if I have the skirt at my natural waistline. If you are looking at an XSmall, here are the dimensions of the one I received:
waist relaxed (ties let out): 28"
waist extended (ties let out): 34"

I fell in love with this skirt and even wanted to wear it for my wedding dress. However, it just does not look good on my body type. I am a 140 lb 50ish woman with hips (not flat like a board as shown on the website). I tried this skirt in every color hoping that it would look good but it just doesn't. It makes me look HUGE. It's took bad because, as I mentioned, it's beautiful.
