so you know how you spend your whole life trying not to be shallow and trampy and then you get a jacket in the mail and you want to make out with it after only knowing it for twenty seconds....

Agree with previous reviewers, this is an extremely lovable parka, almost impossible not to wear all the time. I fiddled around big time before purchasing this one, first ordered it, then cancelled as the studio shots did not look so cool and then, when the reviews started to drop in, realized that i might be missing out on an epic piece of FP clothing and decided to order..and-of course-they were all gone. Yipes! So i stalked the store inventory and it turned out my local FP store had one in this morning and they kindly reserved it for me til i was able to sneak away from my studio. Phew what a thriller. But totally worth it. This is the softest, most scrumptious juxtaposition of all that symbolizes FP to me...Edge, bohemian, vintage, freedom..The drawstrings in waist and hem give you the option to style it a little more, and for me that makes a huge difference, its actually possible to wear this parka and still look like you have a figure:)
Still, its totally too large for me. The XS hits just at fingertiips when unzipped and a little higher w/ zipped, its a bit high-low so mid thigh in back. The waist pretty much spot on . Truly, not a parka, more of a shell in my opinion, but as noted, the arm holes are big enough to allow you to layer your warmest most oversized sweater, a billie jean thermal, a shel like the voile trapeze slip and a soft oversized tank top.....and perhaps more....I'd totally go for an XXS or, heck even an XXXS if available..But they arent likely to be offered so i will totally keep this one. So in my opinion this fits true to size for an oversized look, but for comfort to wear or if you like the shorter length in the model shots size down one or two sizes unless you are very tall. I am 5'4 105 lbs for comparison. I include two snapshot so yousee how the lenght varies when zipped vs unzipped and how big the jacket is on someone my size. I the images i wear with my supersoft pullover in oatmeal, a vintage pink scarf and the fp highrise skinnies in blizzard and JC shifter boots
Bust (all around):40"
Sleeve Length: 22"
Hem all around 46''

Just received my jacket today and I'm afraid to wear it cuz the sleeves are a bit too much lol. Its comfy though. I was going to get the black because I already have another olive parka, but then I got the green anyway since I thought that the design would stand out better than black on black. In this case a little too much. I got the small since there's no more xs and my usual is s anyway. Could probably size down but the oversized look is fine. Like others have said, some beads are either broken or missing. I expect better quality for the price, but it's understandable for beads to be fragile. However, I believe there are better beads out there than the ones fp are using because they really look cheap and that they are really from China (even though they are lol). At least make it seems like it is from Italy or something right? Wish to give more stars if quality was better and supply was readily available. I think I would have preferred xs over s if they had it. I know that it would be restock since its doing good, but hey the cold is now who wants to wait til spring for a winter jacket?! Fp always does this. You guys never stock well because you're not sure if something is going to sell, but you should have a backup plan. People don't like to wait for s long time. Still debating whether I should return this or not.

I fell in love with this coat when the winter catalog arrived, but by the time I'd decided on it it was sold out. I splurged on it when it became available again, knowing I'd only keep it if it was really something special. I'M KEEPING IT! Bonus: it's (carefully) machine washable. A word about sizing: it IS roomy. I am very happy with the XS and I'm not a twig. The S on me made it look like I'd borrowed someone else's coat: with the sleeves covering my hands.

First this coat is not 'huge' as so many have reported. I typically wear an XS or S and the small in this coat was perfect not 'huge' at all so please no worries on the size thing -- it's true to size for a coat that is supposed to be just that a 'coat' that one would wear sweaters under. I was surprised at how soft and worn in it felt and sure the embellishment is 'Over the Top' but that is the great FUN of it and the photos clearly show this aspect! Also, the worn in distressed feel and look of it are a tonic to the glitz and sparkle. It may not be for the faint of heart fashionista or for anyone too young (as would be intimidating perhaps) but for those who can pull off unique pieces this is a great addition -- it takes a practical jacket and turns it into a stunner for weekend kicking around or travelling. LOVE IT! :) Cheers!

The best thing about Free People is their originality and craftsmanship; this coat epitomizes those characteristics AND is actually useful. It is such a gorgeous piece and if you're on the fence about it, don't be because you'll absolutely get your money's worth. This jacket never fails to get attention and compliments and sometimes it's just really cool seeing people who could not care less about fashion remark on its unique design and overall radness. It's nearly as heavy as a denim jacket and will provide about the same amount of warmth. It is very over-sized, like most of Free People's products. Your best bet is to buy true to your size because it's designed to be an exaggerated XS, S, M, etc. I wear an XS and am 5'9" (long arms and such) and I got an XS in this coat with no problems in arm length or any sort of constraint in the shoulders. There is a comfortable amount of room to layer a sweater over other thin, long sleeve layers within the coat because of its over-sized fit. Such a good investment, and an even better way to visibly maintain your style even in the dark winter months that require numerous layers just to survive! I would write a haiku about this jacket if I could, it's just that cool.
p.s. SUPER easy to dress up or down. Too fun to only wear on certain occasions!

The jacket is really cute, I am very small, 5' tall 93lb.. Im wearing XS and its still pretty big on me⦠but the jacket is too cute and I could wear it with skirt or big sweater for a loser look. won't return it even its still kinda big on me, love the jacket.
Rated 2 out of 5Â by suzaluka Green's the winner
I have this jacket in the green color so I was dying to see what it looked like in black. Well I must say that green is the clear winner of the two. If you look closely at the green's picture you will see that it has a distressed, slightly "paint spattered" look to it which is a nice contrast to the glitzy ness of all the beading and gold thread design. However, the black is a flat black color with no variations whatsoever making the whole jacket come off as cheap looking. On the green the dark patches underneath the beading stand out where on the black the beading is the only thing you see. It just doesn't work as well. It would've been cool if they had made it more of a dark charcoal grey color with the same distressed look to it and color variations, then had the dark patches and beading stand out against the charcoal grey. THAT would've been beautiful. Keeping my green, which I love.
