Like most other reviewers said... the dress in the editorial shot of the woman at the gas station is NOT representative of what you will get. That dress looks airy and light, more of a slip than a dress, and I loved how the sleeves look like a loose fit (they're not). However, you do get EXACTLY what is pictured in the studio shots. The dress is heavy to the point that you could get away without wearing a slip on the bottom if you were just standing still... when you start to move you can see the outline of your shape. It almost feels like a gothic gown more than a slip... but it really is beautiful and the quality feels high. Because the dress is so substantial, I actually feel like the price was justified. It is not what I expected but I can work with it... it will be more difficult to dress down than I anticipated. I am thinking of taking it to a tailor to see if they can make it lighter. I continue to be wowed by Free People's presentation of their clothing... and underwhelmed when the actual pieces arrive. :(

I don't understand why the other purchasers didn't love this. It does run a little big. I normally wear a small or medium, but they only had an x-small when I found it so I gave it a try. And I'm glad I did. The x-small fits great! To me it fits/looks exactly like the pic of the girl at the gas station if you order a size down. This is super cute and I'm excited to wear it soon! <3

i bought this before the studio shots were available, and you can see now from them that this looks nothing like the one pictured in the catalog. the top is double-layered mesh which is almost opaque, and the neckline is higher than i'd likw. the empire waist is lower and not flattering . the bottom is again multiple layers of mostly mesh, making it difficult to see any lace details. the back is also quite long and drags on the ground. i was expecting a sheer flowy slip dress, and this is not it. even with all the mesh and some lace, this for some reasons makes me feel like a nun. considering that i thought this was one of the best items in the march catalog, and that i ordered multiple sizes to ensure that it'd fit, this is a huge disappointment.

I'm a pretty loyal FP customer, but really, this dress is a major let down. I see that although it's currently listed as unavailable, more pictures have been added which reflect the dress a bit more accurately. The gorgeous dress I had on back order from the moment the catalogue.pictures were up (the girl at the gas station, front & back view) is quite simply not the dress I received. It is not empire line, like the original pictures. It has a far lower waistline that falls in a pretty unflattering, frumpy place. The airy lace from the original pictures is only to be seen from the waist down at the front, and the rest of the skirt is basically just heavy layers of black mesh with barely discernible spots of embroidery at the back. The bust is not lace as described, just unflattering, thickish black mesh. Altogether a dress I would never have ordered, and so disappointing because I truly thought this one was going to be a sure-fire favourite. If FP decides to make another one like the original pictures and description, I'd buy it like a shot. As it is, I will have to return, and as I paid for express shipping, that's a bit of a pain.

I have never been so disappointed in a purchase before. I fell in love with this dress in the catalog, pre-ordered it and was so excited when it came....until I opened it. The dress I was sent was completely different than the one in the catalog. It was more mesh than lace and the bottom skirt has several layers of fabric as opposed to the sheer, flowy lace shown in the catalog shot. It was just plain frumpy, heavy and beyond unflattering. The catalog shots need to be better representations of the actual product - otherwise it is just completely deceiving and is something of a joke at this point.

First, the "lace bust" in the description does not exist. It is a plain mesh bust. Second, this runs huge. The empire line as seen on the model falls down to my waist. The mesh is very, very heavy. It is nothing like the delicate piece it looks like in the photos here. The embroidery detail on the skirt is very subtle, very difficult to see in person. All you see is lots and lots of plain mesh. Frankly, it feels like an ugly version of the French Courtship Slip in black, which I have and love, and for half the price too. This is definitely going back, even if I have to pay the international shipping cost on return.
