Rated 3 out of 5 by Dark Charcoal isn't Black The Dark Charcoal color was a grey color and not dark at all. I was hoping to get a really dark color boot so had to return these, but if you are a half size, I would order up. I am an 8.5 and the 39/9 fit really well. 10.27.2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Reviews I have been admiring the Johnny Tall Boot for some time. As I read reviews there are several others who also admired before purchase. I'm puzzled though. As I read the reviews it seems that some people are complaining about the shaft of the boot being to high and hitting the knee. And scoring based mostly on this predicament. I mean you do realize that these boots are called "knee boots" right? They are supposed to be on the knee a little above or a little below your knee. Not going to fit everyone the same. And if you are 4'6" or 5' the boots are not going to fit you very well. Come on, evidently if your old enough to buy these you already know what works and what does not. At least you would hope you have enough common sense not to purchase something like a knee boot that is made for "average" height. If you are 7' or 8' tall the same applies. I had to write something because I don't believe it's the products, Free People, or the manufacturers fault at all and the scoring for the boot should might possible be higher. I do not think its fair to others who look at the star rating not knowing how the rating is affected unless most have been read. Not all of us have that kind of time. Scoring should not be considered based on this dilemma that shorter or taller people may have with knee, thigh and even ankle boots. One more issue is color. It is common sense to know that color on your screen may not be the same as the color in person. If you do not know this please understand that this is the case. It is typical and you may be disappointed if color variations are slightly off. However, this is not something that should be considered when rating the item. It is however, a good idea to mention that the color is lighter or darker, etc. But, I do not think it should be considered in the rating. Unless the color is extremely different. After all it's just common sense to know before you purchase that there will be color variations. It 's important for me to say I am not an employee and I am not affiliated with this company in any way other then a consumer who likes Free People products. This is just a few statements I thought should be said. Maybe we all should stick to rating the quality, fit and unexpected issues. Like the laces break easy, the heel is cheap, sizing is difficult and or they look cheap. Or just what I expected, beautiful, size is perfect, and or extremely comfortable,. Now that's good rating. Thanks for reading my commentary 2.23.2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by nice and warm Hello! I bought these boots because I wanted to wear some shoes that would warm up my legs in winter and I was in love with the suede lace up look! I purchased these in charcoal and I am happy with the colour. The only qualm I have about these is the laces as they are pretty flimsy. Also I had to lace these around my leg a few times and put a few extra holes in them as I found I could not get them tight enough on my legs..not a big deal but may be annoying for some. Once laced up these shoes are not so bad to take on and off due to the side zip! for me though it takes a bit longer because I have to wrap the laces around my leg. Overall I do love these boots purely because they look amazing! Also shipping was great and did not take to long! 9.1.2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice leather but run small I am sending these back because they are too small. Nice boots, especially the leather upper. The sole looks pretty cheap and bad quality, for a boot of this price. I would advise buying a slightly larger size than usual with these. 8.21.2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by very poor quality i bought these boots around christmas 2013 and have just recently taken them out to wear them for the first time since i didn't want to wear them in winter and ruin them! One of the boots calf area is far bigger than the other, my laces were extremely stretched out?? (the tightest hook wasnt even close to being tight) one of the laces ripped off at the end and they sag because the suede is so stretched -- I have just taken them out of the box and worn them ONCE. :( Im extremely disappointed with the quality of these boots. very very sad :( 8.8.2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by exquisite got them in charcoal and the color is a spot on grayish black. they feel and look divine! the suede hugs my calves like an army of bunnies and i never want to take these off. materials and workmanship are excellent - the boots look and feel expensive. i would go 1/2 size up - i'm an 8.5 and the 9 fits with a little room for warm, thicker socks. i could go on about these beauties for hours but really there isn't enough space or time! get complimented all the time and now 2 of my friends are getting them :D love love love! 5.1.2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful & SO Comfortable Just received these in the mail the other day, and they are just awesome. I got them in charcoal and the color is rich and pretty, very similar to the pictures. I see that some reviews thought they would be darker, but I think the gray is perfect. I normally wear a 7.5, I got these in an 8, and they fit great. I can wear them with a thin sock, too. The suede is soft, and because the laces are so long, you can wear these boots as fitted or loose as you want. The heel height is great, I wore them all day at work and my feet felt fine. Also, I see that some reviews mentioned a problem with the laces-although they are very long, mine haven't broken and don't seem to be the glued-together leather pieces others have mentioned. My one complaint is that the tongue of one of my boots is longer than the other, so it shows more at the top. Great quality boot & definitely worth the money. 4.6.2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Lots of broken shoelace. I had read the other reviews so wasn't completely surprised when the lace broke instantly as I was putting them on for the first time. In fact the laces broke many times as I was trying to put them on. They are made of many leather pieces glued together. I am handy so I pieced together the right sizes for the boot and sewed them together to get the boost to be functional. I also had to pierce my own holes the in the laces to get them to look the same as each other. If you are not handy, I'd stray away from this purchase. It was comical how much work I had to do to make the boots wearable. I kept the extra pieces that were left over in fear they may break again. Other than this huge flaw I was happy with the boots, obviously, or I wouldn't have gone to all of that trouble, but really I shouldn't have had to do all of that considering the price. Otherwise I feel they are comfortable and cute. I am a solid 7 1/2 and the size 8 fit very perfectly. I ordered the charcoal. If I hadn't had the lace problem I would have rated them higher for the style. 3.17.2014
