**A Goodyear welted sole is a near-indestructible sole comprised of multiple layers of leather, stacked together and glued, then fastened through the sole with small cylindrical pegs of wood individually hammered in. It's a very laborious and time consuming process but creates a sole that can be reworked years later and able to last a lifetime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Purchase! For Jefferey Campbell's these boots are a steal! I know a lot of reviewers said this isn't something free people would normally sell, but honestly its all how you put your outfit together. These boots are REAL leather, and knowing that they are REAL I expecting the leather smell... which isn't bad at all. I have had no problems with the spikes, although reviewers said they received extra and I did not :( You will not regret buying this boot! They will las you forever! 3.12.2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Awesome Boots I'm happy with the purchase of these boots, especially at the current price. They fit very well (I was worried about sizing). I'm usually a 8.5 or 9 with wide feet, and so I wasn't sure with JC shoes if I should get a 9 or a 10. I gave it a shot with a 9 and they fit excellent well! I feel these are a little shorter for standard 9 sizing, but they fit me perfectly. As stated in another review, it hurts a bit to cross your legs, and if you bend down the studs on the back poke you in the back of the thigh- these are very pointy studs! The leather isn't shiny, but I wouldn't say that it looks quite as distressed as I would have imagined from the first 4 pictures. I was missing a stud on the boot when I received them in the mail. While this boot does come with replacement studs, they are meant to be pushed on (not screwed on) and the stud seems to have too small an opening for the back to go into. I tried to replace it myself, but even with tools I only ended up bending the backing because it would not fit into the stud at all (which is how the missing stud came off- only the backing was left in the shoe and it was completely smushed to the side, I assume from when the stud was initially "attached"). Also, these shoes rub your ankle quite a bit. I've been trying to break them in, but they still hurt your ankle after walking in them all day with a pair of socks in between the boot and your foot. It would have been nice if the laces were a bit longer (as to wrap them around the back more efficiently) but it's not a big deal. Other than that, these shoes are just as I had hoped, a great investment that I'm happy I made. I've been wearing them often and have gotten a lot of complements on them already. :) 3.11.2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by More of a Perfect Luster than A Shine I just ordered these boots because I thought the sale price for these Jeffrey Campbells was too good to pass up and am I glad I did!! They are great boots!! They are made of thick but soft & supple leather (mine are more even-toned and not as distressed as the FP images) with a quality sole, eyelets & spike studs (which after 2 wears have not loosened or fallen off at all!). The color is a slightly faded black (not shiny) and the spikes have more of a luster than shine - which I think is perfect. They have a "broken in" feel and the 9 fits me extremely comfortably even though I usually size up in Jeffrey Campbell shoes & boots. 3.11.2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Friends desperately want these!!! I wore these into a fav bead shop and the girls got down on their knees to look at them!! A suggestion for all of your boot pics - 1. take pics looking down at the toes of the boots 2.Show the bottom of the boots. These are very comfortable boots. 1.11.2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by look much better in the pictures... I hoped to receive a pair just like the pictures, distressed and cool and sleek looking, yeah quite grunge...but the pair that arrived was not at all like that . Hmm...the spikes were out of proportion large, the toes aiming north, and the leather very shiny and smelly...did not seem to me like very good quality either. SIze up if you're between sizes, i prefer to wear this style with an extra insole/sock. Well, back they went since I did not like them much enough to tie them behind my truck and hit a dirt road, besides, based on spike-fail reports, most of the spikes might have been lost that way. I have few pair of JC boots that i will keep forever, and wear all the time, but sadly, very often it can be a hit or miss when it comes to quality and styling. But i cannot resist keep on checking them out just in case there is another forever pair lurking on the FP website. 8.9.2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these! It's funny, because I read reviews suggesting they were too edgy, so when I pulled them out of the box I was expecting something pretty punk - I didn't think they were that shocking at all. The studs are actually quite conservative compared to the spikes on some of my other Jeffrey Campbell's! Still very cool - I love that they're made of thin enough leather to be able to slouch them as in the photo and make your own style. I did lose a stud after only one wear - luckily it happened at home so I was able to glue it back, but do wish it came with extra studs (as my other spiked/studded JC's did). Honestly, if they were missing a couple over long wear it would probably add to the distressed look - but I'm hoping it doesn't become a bigger problem than losing just a few over time as the price suggests these should last... 5.10.2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Big regret. So when I received these, I was in love. As the other reviewers have said, however, is that the studs are completely different. Much less silver, and they're taller. Which didn't matter to me much, I loved them anyway. Why the "loved" is past tense, is due to the fact that I wore these for TWO DAYS and they lost SIX studs already. Terrible craftsmanship for nearing $500. I'm incredibly saddened, because now that I've worn these, I can't return them. Jeffrey Campbell usually never has me upset, but these are a huge disappointment. And now I have no idea what to do with these boots that keep losing studs so easily. :( 2.20.2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Funky and unique but I'm on the fence... I see the point made by some of the other reviewers who said that these boots are suitable for a grunge or hard core look. The pair I received was not very distressed looking at all, they were more or less a solid black color, which I think is a good thing. However, there were indeed thick studs sticking out everywhere that is evident from the pictures here (see number 4), so no surprises to me. Jeffrey Campbell has several designs with spikes and many of his designs are "out of the box" so one has to put some thought into how/when to wear them to achieve a certain look. I am a fan of the classic FP look, to which these boots do not really conform. The spikes also pose the very practical problem of garments getting snagged, for example, if you were pairing these with a long skirt. For my taste, I would probably pair these boots with outfits where the overall look will be funky and fun rather than grungy. I was thinking with a pink dress and jean jacket, or with leggings and oversized FP knit sweaters or printed tunics...I'm not exactly sure yet. The leather on these is soft, and yes, a bit smelly, but I'm hoping the leathery smell will reduce over time. I'm leaning toward keeping these boots because of their uniqueness but I'm trying to weigh this against whether this style is versatile enough for my FP wardrobe! 2.13.2012
