what a weird garment!
What a strange dress! The frills and ties don't do this dress justice. Do the ties fasten above or below the lowest layer of ruffle? There really is no good place for them- either way it looks sloppy and is being returned. Sorry this one didn't work out! xx
Having loved the style of this dress for some time I finally ordered the ivory one. It arrived a much darker sort of beige-ish color. Unfortunately in trying to achieve a sort of ombre look it just has white spotches all over as if it had been washed with bleach by accident and ruined. Kind of cheaply made for the price, too. So, back it goes and I am disappointed, had such high hopes for it!
Not as expected, but not bad
I bought this dress taking into consideration all the negative reviews beforehand. It is not straw colored, it is definitely more pink, and the straps are quite delicate. However, the material is very dreamy and I had no problem with the side clasps. This is meant for smaller busts, but with that in mind the dress hangs quite nicely. I had no problem with the straps or clasps myself. I did end up returning because I wanted the straw color as shown, however I would most certainly have kept it otherwise.
Love the pale lavender color
Height: 5'7" (171 cm). Measurements: 32-22-32 (82-55-82). Inverted triangle body shape. Purchased size S in iris color. The color is even prettier in person. The fabric is soft but very thin and kind of flimsy.
Poorly Made Dress Disaster
I purchased this dress right when it was released in Iris for a wedding out of town I attended this past weekend. I ordered a Small (I'm 5'3" 118lbs 32D for reference) and it fit just fine. The trouble didn't come until the day of the wedding when I tried on the dress for only the second time. It was sagging in the front right and kept showing my bra - I couldn't figure out what was going on. The straps are "sewn" to the bodice to keep everything together in three places, two in the front, one in the back, and they had all unthreaded on the right side. On the left, it was loose then came undone on one area. Keep in mind the straps hold the very light material of the bodice up. Everything was sagging and I was freaking out, running late to the wedding. I tried using a few safety pins discreetly pinned to keep the dress together for the night but alas, I looked like I was wearing a purple trash bag. Luckily, I brought a backup dress with me and quickly changed clothes. A dress that costs nearly $200 with shipping should NOT fall apart before even one wear - heck, it shouldn't fall apart at all. I was so excited for this dress and my outfit, and it ended up as a disaster. Free People, I've been a customer for around ten years and have never been so disappointed. I've emailed their customer service and am demanding a full refund.
Hi acoombs143, We're sorry to hear about this! Someone from our team will reach out to you soon. -Free People
I just got this dress and I am highly disappointed with the construction of this dress. I got the straw color which appears more creamy and ivory. I want to like it so bad, but there are quite a few things wrong: for one, the slip is only a half slip and ends like 2 inches above the knee. Because of the lightness of the fabric you can see the half slip through the dress making it look like a cheaper quality. Another thing is the bodice and straps. The straps are only seen together on two parts on the inside leaving the outside just floating around. The material is so thin it can't hold in place without this being sewn together. Once these 4 stitches fall off it will not hold together. And actually one stitch popped when i was takong it off. The straps are too big and easily fall to the side in a sitting position. I tried to tie it tighter but it doesn't help. I was hoping this would be mine, but I'm so upset with this because I know I'm going to have to alter it forever. This is a return for me, sadly, because I don't know what to do with a half slip showing, not the look I want :(
Beautiful dress, bad fit
I'm going to start off by saying the fabric and the colour of this dress is incredible.Very soft, and the colour a very unique blend of light blue and purple. I bought this in my regular size, medium. (5'8, 165lbs) However, the fit on this one just slightly missed the mark. As said in another review (had I read this review earlier I probably would've tried with the size up) the snap closures on the side of the dress just aren't practical. If you have a large bust (I'm a 34DD for reference) the middle closures keep popping open, despite the dress being a perfect fit across my back and around the front of my bust. This could have something to do with the amount of closures sewed into the dress -- only 4 for quite a large area to secure. With that being said the dress is slightly larger everywhere else which leaves me to believe the large might have been a little too big. One more thing I noticed -- while pulling the dress over my head there's only a couple pieces of thread holding the straps in place so the front of the dress won't fall. Both of which snapped at the same time as I was trying to do up the clasps. With all that being said, do I think the quality of this dress is worth the $168 USD ($240 CAD)? No. However, due to the beauty of the dress and the hassle to ship back from Canada with no local store, I am going to shell out the cash to see if this dress can be altered to perfection. Be mindful when ordering this one, busty FP lovers!
Although the fabric and color are beautiful, this dress does not fit at all well. It seems to have been designed for a very small bust, and has simple snaps under the arm that gape open between them. Notice that none of the photos on the model show the underarm closures.
Usually I would wear xs but I kept the s, only because the snap buttons pulled at the side seam slightly because the fabric is so light. The colour is more pink than pictured but lovely, I really like the how it has been dyed it looks worn in places. Fall, weight, shape, style - all perfect.
