Not your mother’s aerobics…
Ready for adventure? We are too. Follow along with the FP Movement team as we try new things, challenge ourselves, and get active.
The FP Movement team – which included me, today – put our performance onesies to the test during a 45-minute workout at Together Old City, a boutique fitness studio that specializes in small group sculpt workouts. For those who don’t know, sculpt routines focus on low weight and high repetition, intended to strengthen the body. During this high-energy “together-style” class, we did a mix of cardio and mat sculpting movements for a full body workout that definitely got us sweating.
Nestled in a quaint walk-up in Historic Old City, Philadelphia, owner and instructor Kate Connelly’s studio is a small but mighty space that’s perfect for a class size of about 10. Along with the studio’s own merch and original art pieces adorning the walls, Together is partnered with Bala, FP’s tried-and-true gear favorite, and fully equipped with their workout essentials. The large mirrors at each side of the studio made it easy to focus on our form and keep up with Kate as she led the class.
With upbeat music blasting, Kate started us off with some dance cardio to get us warmed up. We then started a series of high repetition movements focused on our right side of the body — the goal being to work this side to fatigue, take a rest, and start from the top at the left side. We did movements ranging from squats to lateral lunges before incorporating small handheld weights and finishing off on the mat with planks. The workout ended with some stretching and resting, and we were even given eucalyptus-scented cold towels to cool us down.
It was extremely helpful to have an instructor explain not only what movements we were doing, but why we were doing them and their benefit to the focus area. Kate stressed the importance of doing these high-repetition workouts for one side of the body at a time; this way, we could easily learn what to expect with each change in movement and fall easily into a rhythm. By putting a focus on short intervals of repeated exercises, the workout was more approachable as the class went on — and definitely helped motivate us to push through!
The first thing everyone said as we left was, “Wow, I can’t wait to come back here!” We all agreed it was such a great workout that left us feeling energized and clear-minded. Kate had such an energetic personality (and a great workout playlist, which is a fun bonus) and was extremely helpful & informative throughout the whole class. The length of the class as well as the intimate space didn’t feel intimidating at all, and it felt as though all levels of experience could take this class with ease. We hope to be back soon!
Of course, we can’t leave out what we wore — Kate led the class in our My High Onesie and Sprint To The Finish Pants, and our team wore a selection of our favorite FP Movement one-pieces, like the Transcend Limits One-Piece and Scrunch-Time One-Piece. The mobility of a moves-with-you onesie was so helpful during this class because we didn’t have to worry about our clothes bunching up or riding down…and it doesn’t hurt that we looked great doing it.
If you ever find yourself in Philly in search of a great workout, visit Together Old City. Trust us, you’ll feel amazing and have just as much fun actually doing it.
