Because, together, we can do anything!
With some very exciting prospects on the horizon, we thought it was due time to introduce you (if you haven’t met already) to Free People’s newest community venture, Gather For Good.
"
Gather for Good serves as a platform through which we can collectively channel our energies and realize goals through the art of experience. To nurture community at all levels."
In March, we kicked off an impact-focused program with the Surfrider Foundation – a grassroots non-profit dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people – to unite our community during a beach clean-up in Santa Monica. Supported by a host of FP family (and their dogs), editors and talent including Brittany O’Grady, The Willis Sisters, Rainy Qualey, Whitney Port, we took to the sand with buckets and bags in (gloved) hand.
In addition to Santa Monica, we hosted similar, site-specific clean-up events in Huntington Beach, Chicago, Portland, Santa Cruz, Miami, Honolulu, and Charleston – along with an FP employee-dedicated Clean Up Week – which resulted in over 1400 pounds of trash collected (322 of which came from Chicago alone!) by 295 community members, who collected over 260 volunteer hours. Through these efforts, $2.1K was raised in community ticket sales, topping off FP’s initial $50,000 donation to Surfrider.
"
The Surfrider Foundation is made up of nearly all volunteers, so these Gather For Good events actualize the coming together of passionate individuals who want to leave our coastline and waterways a little bit better than when they found them."
