BIG ON BIG

Oversized Outfitting Is Here To Stay

As FP is the destination for billowy silhouettes, slouchy essentials, and nearly oversized everything, it’s only right that we welcome the oversized outfitting trend with open arms. Now, mastering the art of oversized outfitting can be quite the daunting task, and you might be asking yourself, “how do I wear slouchy clothes without looking like I just rolled out of bed?” It’s truly easier than you think and it all comes down to one simple outfit equation: Your favorite oversized top + your best big bottoms = the perfect oversized ‘fit. It’s as easy as 1 + 1 = 2, but way more fun.

Scroll on to read about all our favorite oversized outfitting staples and how you can dress in your slouchiest clothes while still looking the part.

TAKE IT FROM THE TOP

With warmer weather on the horizon, we’re obviously bringing the oversized tees back into our everyday outfit rotation. They’re easy, breezy, oh-so versatile, and can be styled in just about a million different ways, no matter the season. From short-sleeve to long-sleeve, blank, printed, and everything in between, there’s a slouchy tee out there for everyone (and every outfit!). You can also swap the tee out for a slouchy sweater on a cool night or start with a billowy tunic if you’re looking to play up the proportions.

BRING ON THE BOTTOMS

Now that you’ve got your top figured out, it’s time to move onto the bottoms. This is where things can get fun, because the options are endless. You can keep things cool with a baggy pair of jeans or you can really lean into the Adam Sandler inspo and grab a pair of jorts. Another option is to go suuuuper big on top with micro shorts on the bottom. This isn’t necessarily “big on big” but I’d say that it still qualifies as oversized outfitting and also hits on the “no pants” trend if you’re daring enough.

GET DRESSY WITH IT

Hands down, my favorite oversized outfit equation has to be a slouchy top paired with my favorite billowy dress. I love being able to wear dresses all the time, no matter the season, and throwing an oversized tee, crewneck, or sweater over your dress means you can wear them when it’s hot, cold, and every temperature in between. I also love the idea of layering a top over a dress because not only does it look like you’re wearing a skirt but pairing something casual with a unique dress is an effortless way to create a really cool outfit without having to think too hard about it.

RECENTLY, A FEW OF MY FAVORITE OVERSIZED PAIRINGS HAVE BEEN…

a graphic crew neck with a textured dress, an oversized sweater with a billowy mini, and a classic cardi thrown over my favorite simple midi. Basically, to make a long story short, my Easy Street Tunic gets layered over just about every single dress I own and it never gets old.

At the end of the day, there are about a million different ways that you can style the oversized pieces that you own, and I think the best part about this trend is that you can really get creative with it. Whether you’re dressing up, dressing down, staying in, or going out, you can still keep your slouchy clothes on, contrary to popular belief.
