What defines a good basic?

For me, it has to be versatile, feel good against my skin, and fit seamlessly into (nearly) every outfit.

The We The Free Lucy Layering Top checks off all of those boxes. Made mostly of cotton (with a little spandex added for shape), this $38 long-sleeved tee is one I reach for again and again because it is just. so. easy. The amazing boatneck cut is flattering on so many body types, and fits just right. In just a matter of hours, I curated six different looks for all sorts of destinations, and I foresee wearing this pretty much year-round thanks to its layerability.

THE EVERYDAY LOOK

Without any thought, throwing on a pair of jeans with this tee is (of course!) the first way I would wear it. The Lucy is a basic tee, so layering it over itself makes for a fun dynamic and adds a unique touch to an otherwise simple outfit. For the jeans, this carpenter-inspired pair from We The Free are currently one of my favorites and they really elevate the look. I’ve also decided to really invest in my accessories game this year, so to finish off the look I added the Roots Revival bag and I’m ready to walk out the door!

Night Out Styling For The Lucy Long Sleeve Tee

THE NIGHT OUT LOOK

I can admit that sometimes I feel super lazy when I go out and I don’t really want to think too much about my outfit. This is where the Lucy comes in. I decided on the moss color of the tee and paired it with these incredible micro shorts and thin black tights to (try) and stay warm. The shorts desperately needed a statement belt, so I grabbed this one to really add that rockstar +1 aesthetic. Going along with the theme of trying to stay warm, I threw on this vintage fur coat and knee-high boots to round out the look.

THE VALENTINE’S DAY LOOK

Valentine’s Day is coming up and I need something to wear! The Lucy comes in so many colors, including red, so it was a no-brainer that I’d build an outfit around it. Sweetness being the theme of the outfit, I decided that this free-est skirt would be the perfect pairing. Recently, I’ve been obsessed with the look of knee-high tights and loafers and I knew this combo would look divine here. To finish off the ‘fit, I added a black bag for a little attitude, and I’m ready for my romantic dinner date.

Styling The Lucy Long Sleeve Tee For The Office

THE IN-OFFICE LOOK

No in-office outfit is complete without a classic pair of trousers. Keeping the Lucy cool but sophisticated, I decided to pair it with these amazing pinstripe pants. Since I’m in and out of meetings today, comfortable footwear is ideal, so I threw on a pair of sneakers for this ‘Wednesday in the office’ look. For an added pop of color, I chose the Roswell Slouchy Messenger, it’s also perfect for carrying both my laptop and my lunch.

THE LAZY SUNDAY LOOK

My go-to lazy day look is always a tee and a pair of boxers, because who doesn’t love to lounge around in their pajamas? Especially when they look this good. If I were to leave the house for brunch, I’d pair the Lucy with cozy socks and a pair of flats for an effortless look, but I think I’ll stick to my couch today.

THE CONCERT-GOER LOOK

In my free time, I’m an avid concert-goer and this outfit is perfect for just that. I wore the Lucy under my washed We The Free Ever Had Tee for a cool layering moment and then added this dark denim skirt for a little bit of contrast. To complete the look I added a studded bag and belt and was ready to see my favorite artist!
