Style Diaries: 6 Low-Rise Bottoms That Replaced All My Pants Our guide to low-rise pants styles.

Our guide to low-rise pants styles.

By FP contributor, Caitlin Madden.

I’ll be honest, I was a little skeptical when I heard low-rise pants were coming back in style.

I grew up in the early 2000s when hip-huggers were all the rage, mainly to show off midriffs, with lower-than-low waistbands. I was too young to partake, and by the time I was old enough to do my own shopping, high-rise had taken over, and I had happily adapted my style to match.

When low-rise pants started trending again, I assumed it would be a flash-in-the-pan Y2K style trend that wasn’t super wearable, but I am happy to admit I was wrong.

This is not old-school early 2000s low-rise.

These bottoms are effortlessly cool, opting for baggy fits over ultra-tight silhouettes. The rises aren’t quite as low as they used to be; instead of sitting just above your backside, they hit right under your hip bones, exposing your belly button, but not your entire torso. These styles lean more casual, with an off-duty ease that feels equally trendy and timeless, depending on the outfit.

To show our love for low-rise we rounded up some of our go-to styles to help you find your favorite– whether you’re opting for a classic low-rise jean or a slouchy low cargo pant, this is one trend we just can’t get enough of.

A slouchy silhouette and a low-slung waist make the low-rise trend look effortless. If you’re feeling a little iffy on low-rise jeans, these are the perfect easy pair that look cool with any outfit without being too trendy. Low-slung styles like this pair fit a little looser on the waist so they won’t dig into your hips, and the oversized silhouette and elastic waistband make them even more comfortable.

Say hello to your new go-to pair of jeans — a perfect low, but not too low waist, a straight-leg silhouette that goes with everything in a classic rigid style you’ll love for years to come. These heritage-inspired, low-rise boyfriend jeans were made to be a closet staple, and rightfully so — we’re reaching for them pretty much every day. Pro tip: order one size up from your usual size for a slouchier, slightly baggy fit.

Low-rise: check. Wide legs: check. On-trend trousers: check. These polished low-rise, wide leg trousers fit the business-casual trend with a fun twist. Their low waist makes them a little more laid back, with an exaggerated wide-leg statement-making silhouette, but looks equally cool dressed up or dressed down.

An easy way to dip your toe in the low-rise pool without commitment, these cool carpenter pants can be worn high or low. They have an adjustable belt at the back so you can find your perfect fit with every outfit, but we’re partial to wearing them slung low on the hips for that off-duty, low-rise, effortlessly baggy look.

Two trends we are welcoming back with open arms: cargo pants and low-rise waists, and these pants combine the two perfectly. With a timeless straight-leg silhouette and an adjustable drawstring waistband for the perfect on-the-hip fit, these low-rise cargo pants add a little nostalgia to your wardrobe but are classic enough to keep forever.

Casual, cool and comfy, these pull-on, low-rise baggy jeans are an effortless addition to your bottoms collection. They’re jeans, but they’re soft and slouchy, with an extra cool touch from their adjustable cuffs. You can loosen them for a more low-rise wide-leg look or tie them tight for a parachute silhouette.
