HAIR HACKS: Longer, stronger hair in 3 Months?

Welcome to the “Nue” math…

The amount of bleach that my hair endures on a monthly basis would probably make any hairdresser pass out.

So much so that I’m worried my hair might fall out one day… and I'm just not okay with that. (Even though the colors I achieve are so fun!?!) Exposing my scalp to harsh chemicals on the regular has forced me to seek out opportunities to boost my strands’ health. I tried all the at-home remedies, bought all the expensive shampoos. But the one thing I had not yet considered was hair supplements.

Enter The Nue Co.
You may be thinking, “what stopped you from trying supplements?” And the answer? Pure stubbornness. 3 pills every morning – the suggested dosage – seemed like a lot of dedication, especially for someone with considerable commitment issues. But thank goodness for technology – because a simple daily alarm did the trick.

The Nue Co. recommends taking their Growth Phase Supplement with food so, for me, it became a sort-of breakfast, “eating” my capsules in between sips of coffee and bites of fruit. (I would not recommend smelling the jar of supplements before you swallow; however, if you do, don’t worry! The pills have only a super subtle aftertaste, which kind of reminded me of pretzels?!!)

"
Ironically I don't mind what I put on top of my head, but I take what goes inside my body very seriously."

It’s not uncommon for most supplements to contain random fillers. But a quick scan of the Nue Co’s site confirmed that the ingredients in Growth Phase are all-purposeful and nourishing:

Stress releases cortisol, which can push hair follicles into a “resting” phase, causing shedding and a lack of new hair growth. B vitamins, biotin, vitamins C, D and K are crucial for healthy hair and follicle production. Hair follicles need a constant supply of nutrients to grow and function property due to high cell turnover. Iodine, vitamins C and B6 help to regulate hormonal imbalance that can lead to hair loss and diminished growth. Antioxidants help to protect hair follicles against oxidative stress.

Added bonus – they are certified cruelty- and gluten-free!

To be completely transparent – The Nue Co. suggests taking their supplement for 3 months before anticipating any marked changes/results. But I was so excited by my experience so far that I decided to share after just one month!. No, my hair hasn’t grown 5 inches (yet). What has changed already is its overall texture and strength. After just one week I realized that less hair was getting clogged in my shower drain! I also did TWO bang trims this month compared to my normal once-a-month touch-up. The Nue Co.’s mention of moderating stress responses definitely piqued my interest – I was hopeful that I would also see a drastic shift in my stress levels… but that’s life, baby!

Something to keep in mind (and discuss with a trusted health practitioner) – though these supplements are nutrient-dense, nothing beats a balanced diet. Consider everything else you are putting in – and on – your body. Though I’m not quite ready to ditch the bleach, my experience one month in has been “hairy” good. And I’m excited to report back after 3 months of having The Nue Co. join me for breakfast!
