I first fell in love with mixing scents at the age of 10 when my parents brought me a set of Moroccan oils from a trip to North Africa. The idea of concocting a perfume that no one else had was so intriguing to me. As it turns out, I am not alone in this sentiment. Over the years, when a certain scent caught my attention, the answer to my inquiry as to where to find it would often be “It’s a mix of things!”
To catch a whiff of DedCool is to be enveloped in a familiar yet intriguing scent, much like that of your childhood best friend’s house – nostalgic and inviting, but indistinctive because it’s an amalgamation of the many elements of their home and daily life.
This is exactly what creator Carina Chazanas set out to harness. At the very core, these scents exist to be layered, creating an essence that is uniquely you.

Carina created DedCool back in 2016 – at the age of 21! – with the goal of “expression through fragrance” in mind. She loved genderless-leaning scents that were non-toxic and unique, but realized that her options were limited. So, Carina decided to create her own. DedCool’s scents are high quality yet approachable and functional, meaning they meld seamlessly with a person’s existing essence instead of merely sitting on the skin.
DedCool uses a signature blend of 23 organic extracts that are actually nourishing to the skin and aid in anti-inflammatory properties – like pomegranate extract for cellular regeneration, green for immune system support, and elderflower for anti-aging and radiance. When asked about her inspiration, Carina’s answer is simple – Los Angeles and the surrounding nature, as well as her own palate and lived experiences. She really wants customers to understand the “power of personalization” and that we can set the tone for our day and leave a mark through scents.

Through my own personal experimentation, I noticed immediately that Milk (the best to use as a base scent and “enhancer”) boasts a slightly oily consistency but absorbs very quickly – think dry oil meets classic eau de toilette. (Dedcool has their own lab, so they are free to break from tradition and play with new formulas). Their fragrances are created in small batches with great care and attention paid to quality control. It’s the special formula and proprietary blend of extracts that gives DedCool its staying power, as I received compliments well into the evening on how wonderful I smelled. The water-free element also contributes to the sustainability and long-wear aspect of the fragrances. After experimenting for several days with many possible combinations, I settled on a mix of Milk + Red Dakota, as I’ve always been attracted to a floral musk.
