3 Need-Now Drop-Waist Looks
By: Cindy Suzuki
A rising trend? All waists low.
On the rise this year are all things low – think low-slung belts to low-rise denim. It's no surprise to see this trend show up in dress form, too, with the emergence of drop-waist dress silhouettes. This torso-flattering shape has shown up in our favorite runway shows – from Sandy Liang to Khaite – giving their prominence the designer approval. (If you're on the shorter side like me, you'll love that drop-waist dresses create an illusion of elongating your figure.) They're truly an optimal style if you're ready to start peppering a hint of spring into your wardrobe:
DROP-WAIST LOOK 1
Look no further for your next night-out/concert outfit with this free-est off-the-shoulder set. I love how the color blocking here creates such an effortlessly chic look, while tough accessories like belts and boots add the perfect edge. This set is perfect for someone who wants a no-fuss, head-to-toe look to take out on the town.
DROP-WAIST LOOK 2
Escaping the cold for a warm weather vacay? This free-est dress is the perfect one-and-done packable dress for your travels. If you're up for trend mixing, I love the idea of mixing the drop-waist with a low-slung belt for some low on low styling. Complete the look with sneakers for an easy, travel-friendly look. Finish off the look with a relaxed or oversized jacket on top for a casual yet cool finish.
DROP-WAIST LOOK 3
For those still in the thick of winter, I love the endless ways you can layer with this denim drop-waist dress. Throw on a thermal or long-sleeve under for warmth, and add a long trench or coat when stepping out for errands. Since drop-waist dresses innately have a ballet vibe (i.e. corset details), try a pair of flats here for the perfect homage to balletcore.
