In honor of the timeless and powerful work of Martin Luther King Jr., we encourage you to give, support, and learn.

On January 18th -- and beyond -- please consider joining the Free People community as we explore multiple ways of giving back to those in our surrounding communities.

Following is a list of local volunteer opportunities hosted by the Philadelphia MLK Day of Service -- the largest King day event in the nation -- in partnership with Global Citizen. Additional opportunities can be found on their site for those who are interested in participating outside of the Philadelphia area.

Click on the links below to sign up directly:
  • Nonprofit Shared Food Program is looking for in-person volunteers to pack meals on their food assembly line in support of eligible Philadelphia families. COVID-19 safety measures will be in place -- please bring a mask, gloves, and closed-toe shoes.
  • Global Citizen is partnering with the Black Doctor's COVID-19 Consortium to provide COVID-19 testing at Girard College on MLK Day. As part of the event, they are seeking remote volunteers to field phone questions about the testing site and the overall event.
  • For a kid-friendly opportunity, the Girls Scouts of Central & South NJ is in need of remote volunteers to write cards and letters, which will be donated to the African American Museum in Philadelphia and other partners.
  • Join the African American Museum of Philadelphia in a powerful virtual event, kicking off with the reading of King's famous "I have a dream" speech, followed by interactive workshops about equity, justice, and freedom.
And remember -- you can support Black Owned Businesses in our global communities every day. Here is a list of businesses in several metropolitan cities:

PHILADELPHIA, from Philly Magazine

NEW YORK CITY, from Support Black Owned

LOS ANGELES, from the LA Times

CHICAGO, from Timeout

LONDON, from Travel Noire

We thank you, and look forward to volunteering and learning with you all.
