STYLING 101:
The Things We Do For Love
By: Jules Boyd
Step 1: Buy a really great dress.
It feels like my fridge always has at least six “save the date” cards on it. Spring is the start of the “event” season to me. Weddings, birthdays, showers—you name it, I’m celebrating it. And trust me, I LOVE it. I love celebrating the people in my life on their milestones and accomplishments, but sometimes…finding a new outfit for an event every weekend can be stressful. So, I’m here to show you how to be an outfit repeater in the best way possible.
I know what you’re thinking: “I am not re-wearing the same dress to every event I have this spring.” I get it. But finding one great dress is all you need. Play with shoes, accessories, hairstyles, necklines…trust the process, and you can easily transform one dress into multiple looks. And who cares if you’ve worn the same outfit a few times? Investing in one timeless piece is always worth it in my book—and you can show off your styling skills in the meantime.

THE DRESS
Enter: the Bali Curtain Call Maxi Dress. To me, this is the perfect “everything” dress. Meaning, you can literally wear it for everything and it will work. The subtle print, the convertible neckline, the asymmetrical hem…perfect, perfect, perfect. With its romantic draped detailing, this dress can be easily elevated or toned down.
LOOK #1: THE WEDDING
In my opinion, this is the quintessential wedding guest dress. Not overly dramatic, but chic enough to say, “Thanks! I just threw it on.” Pair it with some strappy heels, delicate jewelry, a bold clutch, and voila—you’re set from the ceremony to the after-party. I wore this to a wedding I had earlier this month and got compliments the entire night!
LOOK #2: THE SHOWER
Honestly, showers are where I struggle the most when it comes to outfit planning. I think a lot of factors go into it: Where is it being held? What is the general vibe? Unless it’s a super casual setting, this dress is definitely a go-to for brunch with the bride or a sweet spring baby shower. Sleek kitten heels or ballet flats and our go-to going out bag, The Sierra Suede Shoulder Bag, are truly an effortless outfit formula.
LOOK #3: YOUR BEST FRIEND’S BIRTHDAY, YOUR LITTLE COUSIN’S GRADUATION, OR ANY OF THOSE “IN-BETWEEN” EVENTS
The “in-between event” is something I categorize under “I don’t have to get super dressed up, but I also want to look nice.” Keep it casual with low-profile sneakers, sandals, or even a platform depending on the dress code. Have a little fun with a bangle stack or statement earring, and balance the look with the bag that looks good with everything.
LOOK #4: GIRL’S NIGHT OUT
I’m adding in this category because GNOs are always a major event to me. Getting dressed up with my girlfriends is something we love to do for fun, so go ahead—make a statement because you can! Channel Carrie Bradshaw with a pointed-toe heel or stay on trend with the classic Frye Campus Boot. Add a statement pendant for fun and get ready to say “cheers” to just about anything.
So, RSVP “Yes” knowing you already have the perfect dress.
XOXO, FP.
