16x20 1967 Black & White Fine Art Print. "Janis Joplin With Bob Seidemann Poster At Home In The Haight-Ashbury" © Iconic Images-Baron Wolman 2017.

Baron Wolman lived within walking distance from Janis Joplin’s flat in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco and considered her one of his most beloved female musicians of the sixties. He visited Joplin multiple times to photograph her, recalling a particular session when he noticed new Janis Joplin posters decorating her bedroom. “Hey, Baron, dig it. I’m the first hippie pin-up girl!” she said. The posters featured a charming, semi-nude image of Janis made by his photographer friend, Bob Seidemann. He knew that Janis had both a light and a dark side to her, so he “urged the light side forward” when he photographed her. In this particular photo, his intention was to replicate her look in the pin-up poster, so he allowed her to appear more serious and somber. “I sure do miss Janis,” he said.
