Not what I had hoped for
I was excited for this dress, but the material doesn't look as nice in person and it fits in the shoulders a little oddly. I ordered my usual size of XS (Im 5'4 and 125lbs), and it was a little tight in the shoulder area which made it fall weird in that area. It is also very sheer so I'm not sure what I would have worn underneath it (I got it in Lilac). It's a bit too short as well - would have had to wear leggings with it probably if I had kept it.
Great all around everything dress
I love this dress! Mine is navy and it's too bad that navy is no longer available. I actually like wearing it backwards with the lower scoop in the front rather than the back. I pair it with a Free People slip and wear it everywhere. It's super comfy and fun! I'm going to order another one soon.
love in some ways
I ordered this dress in the lilac and I love it!! However, do not size up at all. I am usually torn between small and medium when it comes to swing tees/dresses but it is much longer than expected and it definitely is too big, there is a lot of extra fabric when i wear it. I love the scoop and it is a great material though. Def not returning but would order a small next time.
Groundhog Day Dress
If I had to relive the same day over and over again, as a cross dressing Bill Murray, this is the dress I would choose to spend each and every day in. It's the perfect outdoor weight for a Midwestern fall, and the perfect indoor weight for winter when the heater's are cranked. I could get away with wearing a padded bra even despite the scoop, which is (by the way) extremely flattering. Also, one of the reviewers mentioned the unfinished sleeves: this isn't cutting corners, it's by design- I've found the fabric has begun to roll in on itself adding to the overall charm and character of this piece. A+, buy the dress in your normal FP size, and watch out for that last step... it's a doozy.
Great casual dress
I got it in the dark sienna color and it looks exactly as in the picture. I bought a size small but could have gone one size down. I kept it anyway because FP's dresses tend to shrink a bit after the first wash and it still looks good on me. I'm 5'3 and the length is about right.
I just love love this dress! I was a little wary about ordering online after reading the reviews, but I just love it. I am a little over 5'2'' (so if you're tall maybe this isn't for you) but it hits me a few inches above the knee which is a perfect length for a flowy dress like this. I have a muscular build and this dress just works well. I am wearing it a little differently than the model is...I tried it on backwards by accident and then tried it on the right way but it just looks so much better backwards. Weird, I know, but if you bought this seriously try it backwards. I gave it 4 stars because the color i ordered looked much more brown in person so I have to exchange it. Other than that, pair with a chunky necklace and booties and you're good to go! Definitely don't size up...in the past I've been a medium in FP a lot (I wear a 4 in juniors and a S/Xs most places) but the S fit perfectly.
FP Beach is my favorite collection, but this dress was a disappointment entirely. I ordered my standard SMALL, which I do not consider myself, but I've gotten used to the sizing. I should have ordered an XS, but think that would have been too big too. Way too baggy. There are no seams along the wrists or dress hem, which seems like the fabric would come unraveled quickly. Quality is cheap for the price. Just an overall bummer. I am definitely returning. :( so sad.
Where do I start? I am 5′10′’ with a 32DD bust and I weigh about 145 lbs. I purchased this dress in a size Medium and when I first tried it on and styled it, as I did in the first picture, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the dress since the sleeves were so long. You’ll see that the sleeves go down to my fingertips, which is a problem I usually don’t have because my arms are fairly long. So, I figured if I washed it that the dress would shrink a little bit (like a lot of clothes do) and then I would see if that helped with the sleeve length. BUT OH MY GOSH. The dress has now shrunk to the point that it is no longer a dress. As you can see in the second row of photos, in which I styled the dress the exact same way to avoid possible discrepancies, the sleeves now go down to the bottom of my wrists. This part I am okay with. But the length of the dress must have shrunken by at least 4 inches! Before I washed it, the dress hit around my midthigh. It is now impossible to where this “dress” without some kind of bottoms. I bought this because it was a DRESS. I wanted a DRESS. But now, it’s a shirt. The last time I had something shrink this badly was when I accidentally threw a wool cardigan in with my regular wash (I had picked up a pile of clothes and I didn’t realize it was in there). I washed the dress in a laundry bag and followed the washing instructions on the tag. I have never had this problem with any of my other Free People purchases & I have now come across other reviews where the buyers had this same exact problem. It is a total rip off to charge $88.00 for a product that shrinks so drastically when washed according to the instructions. I went and returned the dress to the Free People store and they were very kind. They offered me store credit in the form of a gift card since I had washed it. Notes: The only editing done to the pictures shown was cropping. Also, I am wearing the black bicycle shorts in both of the pictures (I always wear them under my flowy dresses so I don’t flash anybody). Also, online the color choice is “Summer Red” but on the order form is it called “Rasp/Fram”.
