Don't Give Up Yet.....
I managed to nab these beauties on sale and am just absolutely *in love* with the level of distressing to the leather. Like most others have commented, I have kind of large calves and the circumference was incredibly generous, but the downside is the circumference measurement is at the top of the boot, not down lower, so I'm currently stretching them out just a teeny tiny bit so they become just a bit less snug on my lower calf. So far so good, and after only two wears they've already loosened up quite a bit and should be *perfect* within another wear or so.
Distressed, in a GOOD way!
The quality of these sturdy boots and the distressed effect are great! Like the other reviewers, I found the heavy-duty metal zipper to be challenging initially but I rubbed the zipper teeth with a bar of soap and zipped them up and down several times to get it to cooperate more easily. I too have larger "athletic" calves so between that and the stubborn zipper I could not tell at first if I could get them zipped over the biggest area of my calf. After the soap did the trick for the zipper I sprayed some shoe stretch inside where the calf was tight and voila! I am good to go! These are tall boots indeed since I am just under 5 feet tall, so they do come up just above the backs of my knees, which makes them tricky when I am sitting down. But they're such cool boots at the sale price that they are worth the initial effort. :) the fit is looser and comfy at the ankles and width of the foot, too.
I do not know of understand the issues of others with these boots?! I have just received them in Cognac and do love it! I wear a European size 38 and makes a perfect fit with size 7. Zipper is still a bit stiff but will be better in time i think. They feel very soft and easy.
I bought these in size 8. I'm normally a 7.5 but I like to size up with boots so I can put in thicker socks during the winter. The calf width in these was pretty tight - I have bigger calves from running and dance - but I was able to get them to stretch quite a bit. At this point I'm still breaking them in, but they look beautiful on, are very slimming. On me, at 5'3" they come right up to the knee exactly.I like the basic brown color I got - it goes with so many things, and looks both dressy and rustic. I did have the problem others had with the zipper, but when I treated the leather with stretching solution, the zipper also started to work better. These are a nice classic riding boot and I recommend them.
SOOO many compliments on these boots!
I normally wear a 9, esp in boots as I know I have muscular calves. These boots are SO exquisitely aged! They get better with EVERY wear! I agree with the other reviewer, that the zippers were sticky at first. After 2 mos of wear they are very easy to use now. What surprised me is how much the boots stretched out. I am considering buying a smaller size and donating these to a relative, given I hate to have boots/shoes BIGGER than my already large feet! These have been my GO TO boots all season (fall/winter in Mpls, MN), and I get compliments on them every time I wear them, including from men, some strangers, in the skyway system! Worth every penny! Whoops, one other note...These boots have stitching on the strap across the front...My leather stitching on one boot was already fraying/split when I received them, but I couldn't take the time to send them back. I would if I had it to do over. But it works okay with the distressed nature of the boots.
I really like this boot. The problem is the zippers they are so hard and stiff that I had a hard time getting them on and off. I had a new pair sent to me. They were the same also one boot was wider than the other. I am sending both pairs back.
