Jean-Pierre Roditi & Mattie Ilel are based in Los Angeles. They share a passion for authentic vintage textiles and Hill Tribe art. They roam the world together collecting vintage swatches as well as commissioning new embroideries by Hill Tribes that live in Northern Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. Yayoi Hobo Bag is made out of original tunics worn by the Sgaw women of the Karen Tribe. The hemp that is spun into the yarn and then woven to make the fabric, is actually grown by the same tribe in their villages. The tunics are hand embroidered and also embellished with "Job's-tear" seeds. These are the white pearly seeds of a hardy, annual tropical grass. They have 5 Arkha balls sewn to the corners of the base and an exquisite hand tooled leather strap encrusted with beads. They are made in Thailand.
