GETTING IN THE GAME

FP MOVEMENT: What's a small on-court habit or ritual you think only you notice, but fans would love if they knew (if you have one)?

EMMA NAVARRO: I always pick heads during the coin toss. I’m not really superstitious but heads has a good vibe about it that I like more than tails.

FPM: With family ties to sports through your grandfather, are there any philosophies or values from your family that influence your training and mindset today?

EN: My family instilled in me the value of hard work, resiliency, and perseverance. My dad always taught us to never give up no matter the circumstances and to always give one hundred percent effort in everything you do, which were both pillars of how my grandfather played and coached football and lived his life. They both also taught me how to not take myself too seriously and how to not let any circumstances take the joy away from you.

FPM: What's one part of your game, mental or technical, you feel is still a work in progress and gets you excited about future matches?

EN: I feel there’s opportunity for improvement in every part of my game, which some might see as overwhelming, but I think it's super exciting and motivating. I’m always trying to evolve as a player and refine my skills, so I’ll probably always feel like there’s things to improve on as long as I'm playing.

SWINGING TOWARD THE FUTURE

FPM: Looking ahead, how do you define success for yourself beyond rankings or wins?

EN: I think if I can serve as an inspiration to people, I will feel like my career was a success. I would love to be able to inspire people to work hard, even when things aren’t going their way, be resilient through ups and downs, never give up on their dreams no matter how far away they seem, and always go about their lives with optimism and hope.

FPM: What story do you want your career to tell?

EN: I think having an impact on not only young players, but also on tennis fans and anyone that watches me play or follows my journey is incredibly humbling and rewarding.

FPM: Do you have a signature 'Emma off-duty' outfit—what's the vibe?

EN: Emma off-duty is usually in some wide leg sweatpants and a zip up hoodie.
