I TRIED IT: How I Boosted My Greens Intake

With a pandemic takeaway I’m still sticking with…

It seems like yesterday when I was poring over the produce section of my local grocery store, fully masked (and gloved), concocting recipes in my head with the scant offerings displayed and misted in front of me.

My grocery list often failed me because, well, it was hard to count on making a kale pesto when there wasn’t any kale to be had? Good ol’ spaghetti – sans colorful sides – became a fast and reliable friend.

To ensure that I was enriching my meals with crucial vitamins and minerals, I turned to supplementation – with a supplement:

8 GREENS
Full of good-for-you ingredients – spinach, kale, aloe vera, wheatgrass, blue green algae, barley grass, chlorella and spirulina – these tablets (and gummies!) proved to pack the vitamin-rich punch I needed, with just a glass of water.

This lemon-lime-flavored booster stood as my savior on many a long day and, though the supermarket now stocks just about anything I need when I need it, I haven’t been able to quit these powerhouse “pills.” Because, one 8G tablet contains as much:

  • Vitamin B5 as 15 cups of broccoli
  • Vitamin C as 6 oranges
  • Vitamin B6 as 6 cups of spinach
  • Vitamin B12 as 7 cups of milk
  • Zinc as 3 cups of raw peas
Which together help to boost energy, support immunity, and nurture circulation.

Now, we can all agree that nothing replaces the benefits of fresh produce but, in a pinch, it’s a worthwhile – and convenient – addition.

Which leads me to share even more easy green goodness for your consideration:

WHOLIER MULTIVITAMIN
Not unlike my 8Green tablets, this vegan vitamin supplement from Wholier delivers key nutrients in their most bioavailable forms (which means – easily digestible and absorbent) with a light citrusy flavor:

  • Vitamin D3 and zinc, to build immunity
  • Vitamin K2 to delivery calcium and minerals to teeth and bones
  • Omega-3 DHA and EPA to support brain function and memory
  • Iodine and selenium to maintain thyroid and metabolism

GOLI SUPERGREENS GUMMIES
Similar to 8Greens’ gummies, these chewable supplements from Goli are derived from 11 ingredients: kale, broccoli, barley grass, chlorella, parsley, spirulina, aloe vera, spinach, celery, moringa, globe artichoke leaf extract, and bacillus subtilis (probiotic). Together, they help to regulate liver function, improve immune and gut health, and overall – just make you feel good.

PHILOSOPHIE LIQUID SUNSHINE DROPS
Our friend Tara Gonzalez tried Philosophie’s Liquid Sunshine drops after seeing them flood her TikTok feed, and to this day they are still an essential component of her daily wellness regimen. Delivering brighter skin and mood with a soothing, cool mint flavor, these drops live up to their hype aka “sunshine in a bottle.” Chlorophyll, its feature ingredient, is said to stimulate the immune system, aid in blood detox, and improve gut health, while boosting energy and helping skin to glow.

Whether by drop, chew, or gulp, these supplements definitely make it easy to be green. So I’ll make sure to keep them on hand, regardless of what I find in the produce aisles. ;)
