Beauty Chronicles: Five 5-Minute Hair Tricks For Your Best Summer Look Yet

Keeping your mane top of mind…

Let’s face it -- the second that summer begins its annual beckoning, all we want is easy, relaxed, fun everything. That’s especially true of our haircare routines. I’ll bet very few of us want to be at the mercy of a 15-step styling sesh, when we could be basking (safely!) under the sun, adventuring, reading...the list goes on.

We spoke with three FP team members, an uber-veritable hair stylist, and our model -- aptly named Beauty -- to find out what their go-to summer ‘do routines look like. Best part? These routines require just FIVE minutes of your time. You’re welcome.

My 5-minute summer hair routine depends on my curls look -- they have a personality all their own! Which is why I love that the Y2K baby clip trend is coming back. I can throw some dry shampoo in my hair (depending on how my curls look) for some volume or definition, and then add a pop of clip color.

My hair can be so temperamental, and I always seem to sport a serious case of bedhead. In the morning I’ll apply a leave-in hair mask to reset the curl pattern, and then add some wave texture spray. Once it’s dry, I’ll smooth out the ends with a flat iron for a more beachy look. Final touch is to put some Moroccan oil on the ends and throw on my favorite hair accessory!

I usually go to sleep with my hair wet, so mornings can truly be a gamble! If I somehow wake up with natural waves, I’ll add a little texture spray and run out the door. If my hair’s feeling super flat, I will quickly run a curling iron or (new love!) crimper through my hair and try to mess it up a little to make it less “done.” If washing my hair has eluded me for a few days, I’ll add some French or bubble braids. (Tip! Braid the night before and sleep in them so they are a little messier. If the mess has gone too far, take them out and rock the wavy results.)

My hair is naturally wavy, and on the dryer side, so hair oil is my go-to product. To help set my natural wave texture, I add oil to damp hair, and then dutch braid. This sets my hair with no heat and moisturizes! Also, the braids are just cute!

Some days my hair goes very flat, and if I’m not really ready to wash it yet, I’ll use this time to give my scalp some special treatment. I love putting my hair in buns because it exposes my scalp AND I still have a cute style. And then I call it a day!
