You have a question – we have the answer.
The terrain of beauty and wellness can be tough to navigate — there are so many products, so many techniques, and so many opinions. It can be hard to sort through all the research and reviews to find what you’re looking for, so we did the work for you. We asked the experts, got recommendations, and tested products firsthand to find you the perfect solution to all your beauty problems.

Today, we’re talking about hair damage.
There are two things I know aren’t the best for my hair, but I refuse to give them up: coloring and heat styling my hair.
Believe me, I’ve tried to go natural and embrace my mousy-brown root color, but I just can’t stay away from the bleach. And I love that my hair air dries wavy, but a blowout allows me to go way longer in between washes. So it’s no surprise that I’m often dealing with frizzy, dried-out, lackluster locks. The heat damage is real — my ends are pretty dead, I have some breakage, and my bright blonde highlights get dull pretty quickly.
I always use heat protectors, but sometimes I feel like they just mask the damage rather than addressing it.
This brings us to the star of the show: The Briogeo Color Me Brilliant™ Mushroom + Bamboo Color Protect Primer.

Mushroom Magic, and Then Some
A leave-in styling cream with thermal protection up to 450°F, this lightweight primer is formulated with a color protection complex that uses Turkey Tail Mushroom + Bamboo Leaf Extract to synergistically protect hair against color fade.
Turkey Tail Mushroom is packed with antioxidants to combat heat damage from styling products and environmental stressors, plus it contains keratin which is essential for hair health.
As a brand, Briogeo is committed to using natural, plant-based ingredients to target concerns and transform your hair's health. In addition to their color protection complex, the formula also utilizes Vitamin E to soften hair, provide essential healthy hair nutrients, and prevent breakage, as well as natural oils like flaxseed, apricot, and sunflower oils to enhance softness, shine and vibrancy.
6-Free Haircare
Briogeo utilizes lots of different plant-based formulas throughout their products, but one thing stays the same: each product adheres to the 6-Free™ Haircare methodology, meaning they don’t use sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, synthetic dyes, or DEA.
These ingredients can be harsh on hair and the environment, and they’re often ingredients that mask hair issues, making you think they’ve been solved, but they’ve really just been covered up by the silicones and synthetic materials that sit on top of your hair.
The natural ingredients that Briogeo uses actually address the root (no pun intended) of the problem, penetrating the strands so that your hair concerns are fixed over time, and not just filled.
I Tried It
I put the Color Me Brilliant™ Mushroom + Bamboo Color Protect Primer to the test before my weekly blowout. I swapped my usual two-step leave-in conditioner and heat protectant combo for the single step of using the primer on my damp hair.
I used about a quarter-sized amount (I have rather thick and long hair) of the milky formula, and spread it evenly through my strands. Upon first use, I noticed how lightweight it felt — a great sign, as I didn’t want it to weigh my hair down. It also smelled great, with a light citrus scent.
I blew my hair out with a round brush as usual, and once I was done I noticed an immediate improvement. My hair felt softer and silkier than normal — it was touchably soft (usually, I struggle with a lot of frizz and tangles) and gave me some extra shine. My hair looked and felt healthier.
On the bonus side, my style seemed to hold longer than with my usual products, and my hair didn’t feel greasy or like it had a film of product over it. As I’m typing this, I’m going on day three without washing, and my style looks as good as day one.
I can see this product becoming a staple in my haircare routine — I feel really confident that the plant-based ingredients are much better for my hair than my usual products, and with the color protection, I might be able to push my next hair appointment out further.
