Two bras that made me stop hating bras…
By FP contributor, Savannah McGowan
I’ll start off by saying that I’d consider myself a certified “bra hater.” I stopped wearing “real bras” years ago and the contemplation of even buying something with underwire makes me shudder. Now, this might be due to the fact that I grew up in the VS era, where every middle school girl was trying to make the bombshell bra work (that’s something to unpack at a later date). I can honestly say that this experience probably skewed my perception of bras in general, but especially for underwire bras. I’ve only ever thought about them as both uncomfortable and annoying, until I tried two of our Intimately bras…which have literally blown my mind.
I was tasked with wear-testing two underwire bras, the Maya Convertible Underwire Bra and the Sorento Demi Longline Bra. After seeing the bras for the first time, my first impressions: the lace was very soft – I loved the unpadded cups, and the silhouettes of both bras seemed very flattering. When it came to wearing them, I wanted to really see if these bras could truly be worn everyday, so I chose to wear them while doing things like running errands but also wore them out at night in dressier, less casual settings.

I tried out the Sorento first because I naturally gravitate to longline silhouettes. I feel like they’ve always been so much more comfortable and supportive for me and this one definitely didn’t disappoint. It was extremely comfortable throughout the day and I loved the wide back band.Iit never dug into my skin and having more width definitely added to the supportive feel. This one also has straps that can be worn in a racerback style which is great for versatility, if I wanted to throw on a tank I could easily change my top without having to also change my bra--we love an effortless outfit change!
After testing out the Sorento, I moved onto the Maya Convertible, which is more akin to a classic feminine bra silhouette. I wore this one out to dinner one night underneath a slim-fitting tank top and opted to wear the straps crisscrossed in the back so they wouldn’t show. I truly felt comfortable and supported all night long. The mesh detail at the back of the band makes it super stretchy so you’re not constantly feeling like you need to readjust or as if you’re being squeezed too tight. These particular straps also have a really soft feel to them rather than the rough elastic shoulder straps that some of my past bras have had. I also loved the balconette silhouette and the scalloped trim – this is another style that can be worn with lower cut tops and it could be super cute to have the lace peeking out a bit.
After wearing both of these bras for nearly a week, I can honestly say they’re perfect for everyday wear, dressier occasions, or days when you want something with a little more support. As someone who never thought they’d wear another underwire bra, I immediately added both of these to my cart. I love that you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort with these silhouettes and the convertible design gives them an added level of versatility. Both of these styles can be worn in different ways and with a variety of different pieces, making them a great staple to have in any bra collection.
