DENIM & DEEP-CUTS

Inspiration & Personalization with QRTR

By: Haley Gaylor

An artist who creates music and, in turn, full-body experiences.

Based in our local Philadelphia community and anchored in the worlds of sound, texture, and emotion, QRTR (pronounced “quarter”) is a music producer and DJ who doesn’t just make tracks; she creates sensations.

Ask QRTR about denim, and her answer reads more like a short poem than a fashion prescription. She loves a clean, durable pair—like the WTF Tennessee Low-Rise, but it’s the slow distressing, the aging with time and movement, that really speaks to her. “Distressing due to being outside and living your life is beautiful,” she says. “It tells people a little bit about you at first glance.”
Personalization with QRTR
“I typically need to be immersed in a feeling to create something of my own. I’m most inspired by a feeling or sensation,” she shares. “A complicated sensation, especially.” It’s a poetic way to approach music—and life. While others chase the algorithm, QRTR chases emotion, falling down digital rabbit holes or immersing herself in books and films until an idea clicks into place. And then? She translates that abstract into sound. If you’ve ever heard a QRTR set, you know what that sounds like: lush, cinematic, sometimes heavy, sometimes featherlight, but always intentional.

FASHION AS A FEELING

That same emotional language flows through QRTR’s approach to style. “Personal style is about wearing things that make you feel comfortable enough to be completely yourself,” she says. Comfort, here, isn’t just about softness—it’s about ease, confidence, and creative freedom.

After years of battling the churn of microtrends, QRTR has re-entered what she calls a “creative style period,” where the joy of dressing is the exploration. She gravitates toward textured fabrics, layering unexpected pairings like lace and metal . Her current aesthetic? “A mix between high school art teacher and moody alt girl. The teacher AND the student,” she laughs.

PERSONAL STYLE = PROCESS OF DISCOVERY

When it comes to personalization, QRTR sees it as an ongoing journey of self-discovery. “Fashion is such an intimate form of expression, you literally are wearing your work on your body. It really comes down to a lot of digging, research, and getting to know yourself well enough to recognize what truly resonates.” For her, it’s not about chasing trends—it’s about curating a wardrobe that feels deeply personal.

Accessories hold a particularly meaningful place in her daily uniform. “If my clothing is meant to help me feel inspired and comfortable, the accessories are my armor and protection from a bad vibe,” she says. From decade-old rings to her signature mix of silver, leather, onyx, and moonstone, each item carries a story—and brings a little intention to every outfit.

DRESSING FOR THE MUSIC

For a long time, fashion and music existed separately in QRTR’s world. That changed when she began developing her latest music- moody, layered, and raw. “I'm working on a pretty hefty new body of music. I started fixating on specific materials, colors, and textures while putting together the visual rollout of it all,” she says. “And then I was suddenly incorporating those things into my outfits.”
EXPLORING THE HERITAGE BEHIND HER STYLE

EXPLORING THE HERITAGE BEHIND HER STYLE

QRTR isn’t alone in this kind of immersive creative vision. She shouts out Charli XCX — specifically the way Charli’s Brat Era feels like “tattered cloth revealing a lot of thigh.” It’s not just music or fashion or visuals; it’s world-building. “No stone unturned,” QRTR says with admiration. That kind of attention to detail, that kind of total commitment, is what she strives for in her own work — and she’s well on her way.

QRTR demonstrates how true creativity is rooted in emotion, and when you dress the feeling, the music follows. In a world full of endless fashion trends and ever-faster scrolling, she proves that style-- like a great track-- hits hardest when it’s unapologetically, and unmistakably yours.
