I truly love an unlikely duo.
The idea of marrying two things that seem like they are on totally different planets (or in totally different seasons, wink wink) is as exciting as it sounds. Enter our new favorite combo: shorts and boots. These two items come from completely opposite worlds, but paired up they create the perfect trans-seasonal outfit. Both have endless length options, from long to short, that create interesting proportions to give your outfit that extra oomph. And when I say endless, I mean it: cowboy boots and baggy jean shorts, biker boots and micro briefs, knee-high styles and cut-offs…the math is literally making my brain hurt.

CLASSIC DENIM SHORTS & EQUESTRIAN BOOTS
Everyone has their go-to pair of denim shorts, like these to my left. They can be whatever rise you want, whatever length you want. But how do you amp them up? By throwing in a classic riding boot. This pairing gives off undeniably cool vibes while giving your denim shorts a chance to shine in transition-season weather.
VEGAN SUEDE SHORTS & STATEMENT FRINGE BOOTS
We don’t like rules here. And if suede on suede is wrong, we don’t want to be right. Take some micro-length vegan leather shorts and match them with your loudest, proudest pair of suede boots, like these knee-length, fringe-adorned boots. We promise that heads will turn.
MICRO DENIM SHORTS & MOTO BOOTS
Rebel, rebel. This daring pairing just makes sense, and makes a hot-weather bottom a bit more sensical for dropping temps. A harness-baring moto boot is the perfect accompaniment to your micro-mini denim shorts–extra points if they’re studded.
BLOOMER SHORTS & BIKER BOOTS
This is all about unlikely duos, right? Well what happens when a cottage-core queen and big-bad biker walk into a bar? The result is the perfect dose of contrast. So next time you see a pair of delicate bloomer shorts, don’t be afraid to match them up with your most buckle-adorned biker boots.
KNEE-LENGTH SHORTS & COWBOY BOOTS
Now this one’s all about proportions. Who said you can’t do long shorts with long boots? Not us. The tiny peek of skin between this crisp pair of knee-length shorts and these tall Western boots is just enough for both warmer and cooler temps. Sounds like a win-win to us.
LONGLINE SHORTS & TALL HEELED BOOTS
We’re echoing the same sentiment of the last pairing, but with a chic twist. These longline denim shorts are easily elevated when paired back to a heeled boot. The tall silhouette, suede fabrication, and pointed toe up the ante even more. Proof you you can still turn up the heat when the temps chill out. Ow ow!
UTILITY SHORTS & SLOUCHY ANKLE BOOTS
We at FP love an ultra-laidback look. That means big on big, flowy on flowy, and slouchy on slouchy. For example, take these utility shorts and have them make friends with your slouchy ankle boots. It gives off a relaxed vibe while the pointed toe and heel take it up a notch. A formula that truly never fails us.
FLOWY SHORTS & WEATHER BOOTS
It’s no strange feat that the weather has been…unpredictable. And there’s nothing worse than getting caught in the storm in the wrong footwear. But wearing your wellies doesn’t have to sacrifice your ‘fit. Pair a classic weather boot back to a flowy femme short for a nod to the famous fisherman core trend while employing ultra-cool contrast (ala Kate Moss at Glastonbury).
Alas, the love story between shorts and boots commences. To me, they really are a match made in heaven. And more so, it helps delay the wardrobe transition process (which I will gladly take any day).
