First Base: Everyone At FP Is Wearing The Same (Sustainable) Undies Figuratively speaking…

Figuratively speaking…

When you work at a place like Free People— surrounded every day by new clothes and products — you’re pretty much guaranteed to be wearing the same thing as someone at some point. Whether it’s a new set that at least three people in the building are sporting at once, the jacket absolutely everyone has, or the bag we’re all raving about, we all love sharing our favorites and recommending things to each other.

We have our own little hub of trendsetting at FP, and are constantly getting excited about the next big thing, seeing items go from sketch to production, until they finally end up online where we can all get our hands on that much-awaited new obsession.

Usually, it’s clothing, maybe a beauty product, but this time, it was undies. Now, I’m not typically one to discuss my underwear with my coworkers, but during a convo about some of the new Intimately FP styles, one of my coworkers quietly interjected:

“Has anyone tried the new Care FP sustainable underwear?”

There was an almost-instant echo of “YES.”
Once the question was answered, we realized we had all been wearing these eco-conscious, lace-trimmed undies without even knowing it. Usually we’re all so excited to talk about the FP things we’re loving, but maybe everyone was a little shy about revealing their base layers. It felt like we had all just learned we were members of the same secret club, and after we got over the weirdness of talking about our underthings at work, we couldn’t stop saying how much we loved them.

I have a few pairs myself and they’ve become my go-to.

They’re super comfy and lightweight, made with a thin fabric that doesn’t feel constricting or bunch up. They come in three different silhouettes — a hipster, a thong, and a bikini cut – so there’s a pair to fit everyone’s preferences, with lots of choices in a bunch of different colors. (Plus, you can get three pairs for $30, which is a good way to try them all.) And even better than all that? They’re made with sustainable materials.

I reached out to our Intimately FP buyers (who confirmed they’ve been wearing them, too) to obtain some key facts about the fabric, which totally solidified the eco-friendly undies’ placement as the number one thing in my top drawer.

They’re made with Lenzing ™ Modal, a lower-impact synthetic fiber created with beech tree pulp, which carries a lighter carbon and water footprint when directly compared to other modals and cotton. Modal is lightweight, breathable and durable, and it feels super soft to the touch, making it a perfect fabric for delicates. Even cooler than that — the Modal fibers are compostable and biodegradable!

"
So, not only are these undies super cute and comfy, but they’re also made with better-for-the-environment materials so you can feel good wearing them, and you can feel good about wearing them."

Plus, now that I know I’m adding a little extra eco-friendliness into my wardrobe, I’m not embarrassed at all to tell everyone about my favorite undies. Instead I’m telling everyone I know how much I love these sustainable underwear, and that they need to try them out asap.

Now I have an excuse to buy a pair for every day of the week. If my FP teammates don’t buy them out first.
