Sound Bath

“Do you deal with a lot of skeptics?” I asked Audrey, our sound healer for the day.

She is serene, standing amidst an open space that’s slowly filling with FP Movement team members, all teeming with excitement and uncertainty about the journey ahead. The room remains spacious even as it fills with people and energy. Calming music plays, the light scent of tea wafts through the air, and voices shift to hushed, dulcet tones as if to respect the space for its sanctity. We file into Koselig Nook with reverence, the high ceilings and ambient lighting inadvertently calling us to a place of quiet calm.

“I’ve found that it’s often the people who are the most hesitant who end up having the biggest shift,” Audrey responds, “because they’re not trying to force anything, they are just experiencing what the body naturally does in response to sound.”

For the next few hours, this is a space of healing. We are entering into something new. We are about to try a sound bath.

WHERE WE WENT

For this We Tried It, we had the pleasure of visiting Koselig Nook in Coatesville, PA. A Norwegian term meant to encompass a feeling of deep contentment, Koselig lived up to its name and brought a sense of warmth and comfort to our sound bath experience. Large windows filled the space with natural light while the wall to wall couches and high ceilings provided plenty of room so we could spread out to embark on our individual sound healing journeys.

WHAT WE DID + WHAT WE THOUGHT

Our sound bath experience was conducted by Audrey Uchimoto, a certified Sound Practitioner and founder of Sound Baths by Aud, her practice based on the Main Line of Philadelphia. Her sessions blend science with intuition — using crystal singing bowls, gongs, and harmonic instruments to guide participants into deep rest, clarity, and inner coherence.

Audrey’s journey with sound began in 2017, after surviving the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting. While navigating PTSD, she discovered that sound was the only modality that reached the deeper layers of her nervous system. “During that first sound bath, something inside me exhaled for the first time.”
Through vibration, Audrey found a way to settle her system, reconnect with herself, and gradually heal on a deeper level. This notable transformation inspired her to share this work with others.

As our group of 12 slowly meandered into the space on a Monday afternoon, emotions ranged from excited to anticipatory to even a little stressed, hoping the healing powers of sound would work their magic on us all:

“I’m pretty stressed and I’m a little frustrated–I’m really interested to see how this feels going in…maybe a little bit more frazzled than if I did it on a Sunday.”

“I’m really excited, I think this is a good decompression from all the emails we get on a Monday.”

“Going to ease into the week fresh and balanced, hopefully. I came in here thinking I’m walking out a different person, so let’s do it.”

Audrey began instructing us on the process. She explained how the sound would interact with our brain waves and our energy system, also known as our chakras. “Simply lie down, get comfortable, and let the sound do the work.”

WHAT IS A SOUND BATH?

Sound baths use intentional sound frequencies to encourage deep relaxation and a nervous system refresh.

Audrey explained that contrary to popular belief, sound doesn’t just pass through your ears, it travels through every cell of the body. The vibrations created in a sound bath interact directly with your nervous system, which can help guide the brain into a slower, more restorative state. This causes your parasympathetic nervous system (also known as your body’s reset-and-repair mode) to switch on, which can result in decreased heart rate and blood pressure, muscle relaxation, and stress relief.

In short, sound baths are a gentle catalyst for a whole-body reset.

HOW SOUND BATHS OPEN THE SEVEN CHAKRAS

Before we started our sound bath, Audrey shared a simple truth: your body already knows how to heal. The chakras aren’t abstract concepts, they are living energy centers that respond instantly to vibration, breath, and presence. A sound bath doesn’t “force” anything open. Instead, it creates the conditions for your natural alignment to re-emerge. Going from the bottom up is:

Root Chakra: Base of the spine. Related to safety and security. Its color is red.
Sacral Chakra: Lower abdomen. Related to emotions and creativity. Its color is orange.
Solar Plexus Chakra: Upper abdomen. Related to self-confidence. Its color is yellow.
Heart Chakra: Chest. Related to love and relationships. Its color is green.
Throat Chakra: Throat. Related to expression and truth. Its color is blue.
Third Eye Chakra: Between the eyebrows. Related to intuition and wisdom. Its color is purple.
Crown Chakra: At the crown of the head. Related to spirituality and enlightenment. Its color is violet or white.

Each chakra has a natural vibrational frequency. During a sound bath, these frequencies are touched in a way that allows them to align to their natural state. When chakras are blocked or out of balance, physical and emotional symptoms come into play. For example, heightened anxiety could be related to a blocked root chakra, whereas feelings of jealousy or resentment could stem from a blocked heart chakra. The vibrations from a sound bath are thought to help clear stagnant energy and restore balance where needed.

OUR SOUND BATH SESSION

Audrey started the session softly, using gentle tones that naturally invite the body to relax. Gradually, she built in a layered, immersive soundscape. Many of us felt subtle vibrations, warmth throughout the body, and waves of emotion.

“I saw different colors depending on the pitch of the sounds. A lot of green, which I’m told had to do with my heart chakra”

“It was so interesting how my emotions changed with the sound. At points it truly felt like I was floating.”

“At the end, she told us to return to our human vessels. I really felt like I had to come back to myself, like I was on a literal journey.”

Audrey finished the session by providing a sprinkling of sound above the head of every person in the room, ensuring that individual attention was paid. Every session is guided in real time by the energy of the room. Audrey doesn’t follow scripts, she follows intuition. She senses what the moment calls for and uses a full spectrum of tones to support emotional release, nervous system regulation, and energetic alignment. “Your body takes exactly what it needs,” she says.

WHAT WE WORE

This We Tried It was all about easing into the journey, so all of our outfits were rooted in relaxation. Soft, flowy bottoms like the Momentum Pant and the Hot Shot Sashay Pant grounded us in comfort while body-skimming tops with light compression like the Go To Smooth Square Neck Cami and the Double Point Tee made for the perfect complementary styles. Some of us topped off our looks with soft, boxy add-ons like the For The Win Tee and Ride It Out Layer, ideal for staying cozy while adding a bit of dimension. Soft fabrics, relaxed silhouettes, and easy pairings were all top of mind when it came to this relaxing wellness experience.

HOW WE MOVED

Simply put, we didn’t. For this We Tried It, we wanted an opportunity to tap into the less active side of wellness. With the holidays approaching (and our FP busy season in full swing), the team was given an opportunity to slow down and be reminded of the integral role that rest plays in a well-balanced life:

“I want to do this once a month–this felt so restorative.”

“I genuinely felt like I went on a journey to some in-between space that wasn’t quite asleep but wasn’t quite awake. So dreamy.”

“I’ve done a sound bath before and it’s so interesting how different this experience felt. Both were positive in different ways–my previous session was very emotional whereas this time around I felt very calm.”

The sound bath proved to be a successfully moving experience for us all. From those who had tried it before to the skeptics anticipating nothing but a few minutes to lie down, every person left the space with a feeling of contentment and a reinvigorated spirit, ready to walk on to whatever season of life comes next.
