You’ve heard of a scalp brush, but have you heard of a brush that detangles, styles, and gives your scalp a much-needed scrub, all in one? Allow us to introduce you to the Manta Brush.
Truly a one-and-done tool, Manta was designed by a professional hairdresser to be a brush that’s “as gentle as running your fingers through it.” Instantly intrigued by the ergonomic design and gentle bristles, we wanted to put this tool to the test to see if it really could do it all. We gave both the Original brush and the Kinks, Coils, & Curls brush a try in an effort to elevate our scalp routine and see what all the hype is truly about. Read on for our thoughts and to find out why we’re giving this brush a permanent place in our hair routine.
WE TRIED IT
The Manta Brush

SAVANNAH
Hair Type: A mix of curly/coily, always frizzy & hard to detangle.
Brush Used: MANTA Kinks, Coils, & Curls Brush
As someone who struggles to find brushes that can do more than only get through the ends of my hair, I was skeptical to give this brush a fighting chance. I’ve been let down more times than I can count when it comes to hair tools, but I can honestly say I haven’t stopped using this brush since I got it. Over the course of a month (or more) I used this brush weekly. I have a somewhat extensive hair routine, where I do a hot oil treatment, detangle, shampoo, detangle again (yes, you read that right), and then I deep condition before finally putting my hair into braids and giving my arms a rest.
Before Manta entered my life, I’d use a combination of a comb and brush to completely detangle my hair and then scrub my scalp in the shower with a separate tool. The Manta brush has completely removed the need for me to use a comb, brush, and a separate scalp brush. This flexible little tool moves through my hair like butter, roots included, and the grippy design makes it easier than ever to hold onto. I can detangle while I do my hot oil treatment, bring it into the shower with me for a scalp scrub, and then detangle with it again while I do my deep condition. Never in a million years would I have ever thought I’d find one tool that could do everything and it has truly changed my life. I used to despise wash day and now it feels like a ritual that I actually look forward to. Not to mention, my fears of ripping all my hair out during the detangling process have been completely washed away (wink, wink).

My journey with my Manta brush has been just that – a journey.
I was really excited to use this after my coworkers' glowing reviews. The first place I took it was the shower, where I was hyped to use it as a scalp massager. That experience? 10/10. They recommended rubbing your shampoo in with the brush, and it was genuinely such a luxurious feeling that I knew my scalp would thank me for
While I wanted to leave it in the shower for daily scrubbing, my goal here was to see how many ways I could use this brush. After I rinsed off my shampoo, I used it as a brush and this is where I ran into some trouble. While it definitely did the job, and was gentle in regards to detangling, I felt it took me a while to get my whole head, and other brushes have done it with more ease. My hair is definitely a mixed bag, so I think for this specific use, the Manta Kinks, Coils, & Curls Brush would have been more useful for me, since the bristles are longer and thicker (just like my hair)!
That did not deter me though. My next mission was to take this brush out for a beach day, where my post-ocean hair is something little can tame. The travel size (+ pouch!) were perfect for throwing in my bag, which I thought was way more efficient than a full-size brush or comb. And it was just as powerful! So even though I didn’t love it as an everyday brush, it was definitely a game changer to have something to stand up to my salty strands.
That led me to my final, and most favorite use: The purse brush! After easily slipping it into my beach bag, I knew it would fit in my everyday tote so I took it with me for a few nights out on the town. Normally, the humidity of dancing and outdoor kiki-ing will have my hair frizzy and huge and my comb could never combat the crisis. But when I used the Manta brush that weekend, I knew it would never leave my purse, because it revived my hair SO many times throughout the night! I was looking sleek and gorgeous the whole time, which is completely priceless to me as a party girl with wild hair.

Let me preface this by saying that after consistently using the Manta Brush for about a month, I don’t know if I can ever wash my hair without it now. Seriously.
I’m not someone who has an intricate hair routine — usually shampoo and conditioner, and sometimes a leave-in treatment before I blow it out. I’ve also struggled with eczema and scalp psoriasis, so I always err on the side of caution when it comes to the products and tools I use on my head. My (now committed) relationship with this brush comes in here.
First, let’s talk texture: The Healthy Hair & Scalp iteration features long, bendable silicone teeth and an ultra-ergonomic design. It feels incredible to just simply brush your hair out or hold it in your hand. It also features a gripped base for the teeth to gently remove hair without pulling it out and is easy to clean out after each use. The most surprising aspect? This brush is designed to gently detangle hair, so not only can you use it to wash your hair and scrub your scalp in the shower, but you can get rid of your other hairbrushes, too. You won’t need them after using the Manta.
Now, let’s talk about uses: As mentioned before, the main draw to this brush was the in-shower use aspect. I’ve used scalp-scrubbing tools before, but the teeth have either been too short or stiff to feel comfortable — or like they weren’t just creating a giant knot on my head. With the Manta, I can really massage shampoo in to feel like my hair is, for lack of a better word, clean, and brush out conditioner or leave-in treatments in a way that evenly distributes the product. The brush is compact enough to be travel-friendly (and even comes with a travel pouch!), so you can bring it along with you without worrying about it taking up too much space. But wait — there’s more! You can also use the Manta with heat tools because it has a heat-resistant design. Please hold your applause.
Finally, here are a few results I’ve personally seen: I generally have flakey, dry patches around my hairline and on my scalp, and I can honestly say that after using this brush routinely, my scalp feels significantly more soothed and clarified after I shower. The brush is also anti-static, so after I style my hair with heat, it doesn’t frizz up once I run the Manta through it. My hair, overall, feels healthier and cleaner. Plus, the sheer “self-care” aspect of taking more mindful time to wash my hair is ultra-relaxing…I would honestly give this brush five stars for that alone.
