Leather crossbody bag with leather fringe trimming and drawstring closure at top. Tiered bead embellishment on the front. Long leather strap that is removable. Leather is super soft and supple. Inside is lined with one pocket. By Spell the Gypsy Collective For as long as sisters Elizabeth and Isabella can remember they've been enamored by the feeling created when you combine feathers, leather, and turquoise. In the 1960s and '70s their father was a leather craftsman and their mother was a potter/painter. The sisters work, channeling their inner gypsy spirits, from their Byron Bay studio.
Spell & the Gypsy Collective
Sisters Isabella and Elizabeth began the brand in Byron Bay over five years ago. The bohemian label, known for its signature playsuits and floor-skimming kimonos, is made for the girl who dreams of a far-away wonderland, who rules rock-chic, who wears white to get it oh-so dusty, floating down the beach in floral.
I love this bag and get many compliments on it. i would say the only down side it that the beading does not hold up well. it broke within a couple of weeks but they replaced it and i rethreaded the beading to make it stronger and now absolutely no problems!
Don't go by the photos
The bag I received is about 30% smaller than the one in the photos. I counted 27 tassels on the bottom of mine, and 35 on the bottom of the one in the photo here. Mine has about an inch of leather above the top tie, whereas the one in the picture clearly has a good four inches. On the ties of the bag, I have 6 tassels each, in the picture I can see at least 10 each, and they are a good couple inches longer than mine. Overall, the bag looks like a cheap knockoff of the original, you can't call this a bag, it's more like a pouch.
I've wanted a Spell and the Gypsy purse for over two years. I've swooned. And when I finally get the money, nay the courage!, to spend $170 on a purse, I just knew this was the one. Imagine my disappointment. It's like Santa brought me the wrong present. I get a small box in the mail yesterday and hand it off to my husband, thinking it's something he ordered. He hands it back saying it's mine. What? Mine? It's "THE" purse. I open the plastic to find a frail, thin purse; much smaller than I imagined. The soft leather felt like it could rip at any moment, The fringe was haphazardly tangled and crinkled this way and that. The beading looked like it was begging to drip away from the biggest let down in my wardrobe history. I'm seriously in mourning. And I have to pay $6 to re-stock fee. Such a gut-wrenching bummer.

It looked roomy on the model, but it is actually very small. The fringe was so wrinkled up I did not think it would ever hang correctly, fringe is very thin. Many of the beads were cracked, and of poor quality, at first I thought they were plastic, not smoothed bone definitely and not tapered to ends as should be. Just not good quality at all.
So cute, SO DELICATE
This is probably my favorite bag ever in the world ever, but it is definitely not a bag for the active lady! It's perfect if you don't need to carry much more than a wallet, keys and phone and weighs next to nothing. The only thing you have to watch out for is it is INCREDIBLY delicate. I have had this bag for three months and quite a bit of the string holding the beads has snapped, with the top right breaking within a few days (see picture) and first row of beads falling off within two weeks. Set it down gently, and make sure when you are crouching down that you don't accidentally step on the tassles so they don't snap. (Also, I might add that I have this bag in WHITE, which appears to be discontinued now)
We're sorry to hear about your bag! We'll be in touch. xoxo
This bag is even more beautiful in person. The leather is quality and smells so nice. I bought the antique brown and it is true to the photos. I was a bit nervous spending the amount to get this but it's worth it. I want all the colors now!
Broken within 8 months
I LOVED this bag. I got it in the dark brown. I got it in September of 2013 and by May of 2014 all of the beading completely fell apart. Actually within a few months one of drawstring tassels fell off and I was really upset about it. I contacted Spell and the Gypsy to see if they could fix it for me, but they told me to contact Free People so I just said forget it. I understand this isn't an every day bag, more of an event bag or weekend bag. I didn't use it as an everyday purse either. I am SOO sad. It was like effortless: one day all the beading just came off at the top. All the beads came off the strings so there was absolutely nothing I could do to save it. I spent so much money and it really is a beautiful bag, just super delicate. $165 and now all I have is a leather crossbody without beading. It looks silly without the beading because you can tell where all the beads were. So disheartened by it breaking. Just wanted to let everyone know my experience. I am sure it happened to others as well.

Adorable, but not durable
Bought this bad about 5 months ago & I love it but this is not an everyday bag, the leather is thin and weak. The leather holding the beads together has broken in a few places and the strap also has developed a hole wear it is connected to the bag. I love this bag and still use it but it is definitely made more as a once in a while bag.
