So pretty but very oddly sized
I'm 5'8, 34-36DD, small waist but I have hips and a large bust. Typically hourglass shaped. I usually wear a size 6-8 US, 12 AUS/UK depending on the cut. I heard this ran a little large so I grabbed it in a small given I would typically wear a medium in this style. The pattern is really pretty and the material feels so nice, it's the perfect casual comfy dress but it is seriously WEIRD sizing. The length was good even though I am quite tall and sometimes dresses appear a little short on me, but the dress was really baggy around my boobs (which were even larger than normal given I wore this dress for my pregnancy announcement pictures). The skirt section was also kind of baggy, which is again weird given I have quite curvy hips AND had the beginnings of a baby bump/hip widening (I was about 16 weeks pregnant at the time). I had to knot the dress at the back so if didn't look shapeless and drown me. The only place this dress resembles a small is in the arm cuff section which are actually a little tight on me. It's really pretty, but I will likely need to have it altered once I've had my baby if I want to keep wearing it. If you're smaller than a US 4-6 I don't recommend this dress which is a shame, because it's seriously pretty.
I have the twilight version, its such a nice shape, the neckline, as others have said is very low but I pin it to raise it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the sleeves are a bit tight on me when I don't have them down and there is no give in the fabric.
Unexpected but cute
This dress is made of a super lightweight comfy material. Dress runs on the large side. Im normally a small and had to purchase an XS in this and it was still a bit loose on me, I like that you can wear the dress with the low cut portion in the front or behind. I was disappointed with the quality of the pattern. Much cheaper looking than in the photos.
It is quite unique dress!
I do love this dress but it sure does have quite an awkward cut. Still I do admire my dress. I love its color combo. And I am planning to buy another color. I bought Jade Combo. It is one of those unique dresses you must add to your Free People Collection. I got my regular XS and it is a bit roomy in upper area.
Better than the pictures
The dress looks western in these pictures, which isn't something I'm a fan of, but when I saw this in the store the deep emerald colors and intricate pattern struck me. To fix the issue of the top part being so loose and low-cut, I wear the dress with the slit in the back and it's darling that way!
I purchased this dress in an XS in the purple/pink colour combo and i absolutely adore it. I am 5'1 and a small build and the xs fit great! It is meant to be a loose fitting dress but the elastic waist was perfectly cinched where it was supposed to and was very flattering- it is rare to find a flowy dress that can show off your curves but this one did just that! The top is definetely roomy and does sit a little lower than in the picture. Maybe i just have a short torso but it was very revealing- i just put one or two stitches attatching the front and back part of the v neck and it was great and only took 2 mins ( it was for a wedding or else i would have just worn a cute bralette under it) The fabric is absolutely beautiful- the colour- the pattern- the material. very soft and lightweight which will transition nicely into summer! Would totally buy this in every colour!!
Not so much...
I got this is medium in the Twilight Combo and the dress in huge up top. FYI I am 5'5 and 140lbs and normally I wear a medium in FP dresses. This looks frumpy on me which is surprising since it has a nice cinched in waist and a beautiful pattern. Also for smaller chested girls you will be engulfed by the scope neck. On the model it is a V neckline. On me it piles down to my belly button like a cow neck. Two different styles! I also tried to reverse the dress and the neckline swallowed me up again. Not sure what the issue is, maybe its just me. But I bought the LENNON BELT thats in the photo and its FAB so small victories. :)
Im wearing this dress right now and its as comfy as they come, while also looking great and pretty. Im small up top and the V is low, and so I spun this dress around backwards so the deep V accentuates my back instead! Got compliments all day. Thumbs up!
Pretty Boho Dress
I liked this dress but hesitated to order it because the reviews were mixed on sizing. I decided to order it anyway and went with a Small (I'm 5'4" with a 36B bust, 30 inch waist, and I can take either a Small or Medium in FP, depending upon the style and cut). The small fits very well, it comes to the middle of my shins, so it's a midi length on me. There wasn't a ton of extra material on top, as some reviewers have noted. Yes, it is blousy, but that is the style. However, I will definitely need to pin the top and wear a slip underneath, as the material is gauzy and you can see through it. I ordered the scarlet color...it is more of a wine color with off white and some small speckles of red and purple, not as vibrant as in the pictures. The dress can look rather frumpy without accessories but if you add a belt, boots, and a statement necklace or scarf, the dress will look great. Oh, and the dress actually has a back!! Too many FP dresses have no back or extremely low backs, which makes it impracticable to wear to work. At $148 + tax for a dress, I want it to be useful and appropriate to wear in many settings, not just for weekends or hanging out in a night club :)
