Because this kit from WTHN can handle almost anything that crops up…

If I told you there was a single thing you could do to alleviate pain, lower stress, lessen anxiety, improve immunity, and promote sleep, you’d probably say, “Please stop lying and leave me alone.” And listen, I wouldn’t be mad about your reaction — it does sound too good to be true.
But hear me out.
I love western medicine: making appointments, getting a diagnosis, filling prescriptions. But there are things that your GP just might not be able to help with, that don’t have a cure found in a pharmacy. Severe runny nose? Just let it run its course — nothing you can do. Terrible night’s sleep? Double down on caffeine for the day and try to get to bed earlier. Stressed about...everything? Take some deep breaths and stretch.
A few weeks ago, I was experiencing those exact three things simultaneously — a real triple threat, several days in a row. I couldn’t breathe out of my stuffed nose so I couldn’t sleep for more than 90 minutes at a time, and the world was just generally stressing me out. With nothing “to do” about any of it, I figured now was as good a time as ever to take the at-home ear seeding kit I’d been sent for a spin.

I studied the ear map, placed my seeds, dutifully massaged them throughout the day. I figured I’d constantly be thinking about the dare-I-say-chic neon (and gold, if you’re looking for something a bit more subtle) seeds along my ears forever checking in with my body to see if they were making a difference. But after a few hours, I kinda forgot they were there. And after a day, I also kinda forgot that I had a cold/was exhausted/played home to a pit of stress.
It’s not that each of my ailments was cured; it’s more that my body just felt...better, overall. I was still occasionally blowing my nose, but I wasn’t uncomfortable or annoyed about it. The world hadn’t spontaneously healed, but my stress had somehow leveled out and allowed me to focus on other things. And I did get a decent night’s sleep a few nights in a row! Some of it may have been the product of time — a cold running its course, etc. etc. — and some of it may have been straight-up magic. But I’d like to believe that at least some of it was a result of the tiny, cute jeweled seeds -- think temporary “piercings” with benefits -- adorning my ears and reestablishing the proper flow of energy throughout my body.
What is ear seeding?
Put simply, ear seeding is reflexology: certain parts of the outer ear correspond with and map to different body parts and systems; applying pressure to specific points can result in a range of health benefits. It’s a form of auriculotherapy, a method of diagnosing and treating ailments by stimulating acupoints on the ear and is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
How does it work?
In TCM, the ear is a microsystem of the whole body. Not only is it home to several acupressure points that can help promote physical and mental healing, but the ear is also connected to the body’s main meridians (aka energy pathways). This means that stimulating ear acupoints can help with the flow of energy in the body, restoring balance and health.
And what can we use to stimulate those ear acupoints? Ear seeds! In the same way that acupuncture needles placed in certain acupoints might stimulate healing, ear seeds placed in certain ear acupoints send the same kind of messages: “Hello, brain. React to the activity at this pressure point and heal the thing it’s connected to!”
What are the benefits?
When a seed is placed on a certain acupoint, that pressure tells your nervous system to turn down pain receptors and stress hormones that might be impacting the area associated with that acupoint. As a result, ear seeding could lead to a myriad of benefits, not least of which include:
How do I do it?
Well, you could go out into the world and find an acupuncturist or you could seed your own ears from the comfort of home! The kit comes with everything you need to get your healing on: a set each of neon and gold ear seeds with adhesive, long-handled tweezers to place the seeds, and a how-to map of 10 application points.
After consulting the map, select the spots that correspond with the things that ail you. Then, use the tweezers to place the ear seeds on those spots on both ears. Press the seeds gently to secure them and voila — you’re seeded. Over the next few days, remember to gently press the seeds throughout the day for an extra boost and activation. After 3-5 days, the seeds may naturally fall off or you can remove them. Give your ears a break, then reapply weekly.
