The Cold Weather Running Guide

Summary

•Start with support: Choose a medium- to high-impact sports bra and stay-put leggings with four-way stretch for comfortable, uninterrupted runs.
•Layer for sweat and warmth: Opt for moisture-wicking long sleeves underneath breathable jackets or heavier layers to stay dry while adding insulation as temperatures drop.
•Finish with fleece and accessories: On especially cold days, add fleece or fleece-lined pieces and cold weather accessories to stay warm without sacrificing mobility.

Ready for chilly morning runs?

Picture it…the air is crisp, the sun is peeking up in the distance, and the sound of your soles against the pavement keep time with your heartbeat. Sounds pretty idyllic…but what could make this run even better? The proper layers, of course! As the temperatures drop, outdoor running gets a little more complicated. We’ve got the guide to all of the tops, layers, leggings, and more to make your cold weather runs as chill as possible (pun intended).

BEST-OF BRAS

Like any good workout outfit, it all starts with the right bra. For a run, we recommend a medium- to high-impact style with plenty of compression and a supportive design.

STAY-PUT LEGGINGS

What’s worse than hitting your stride and having to pause to pull up your leggings? These legging styles are specifically designed with four-way stretch and a stay-put waistband so you can keep your pace without interruption.

SWEAT-READY LAYERS

Not every long sleeve tee is equipped for outdoor sweat sessions. We recommend choosing something with moisture-wicking fabrication so you can stay dry under your heavier layers.

JACKETS + HEAVYWEIGHTS

As the temps drop, you might be looking for an extra layer to tack onto your fall or winter running outfit for a little more insulation. We’ve got plenty of comfortable, breathable cotton options that provide that extra warmth without the extra bulk + some performance-driven jackets to keep you moving.

FINISH WITH SOME FLEECE

Okay…so let’s say you’re feeling particularly ambitious on a particularly cold day. Topping off your look with a capes fleece or subbing in some of our fleece-lined options is a great way to stay warm without compromising your outdoor running goals. Add on some cold weather accessories.
