“I Wore This Set For 12 Hours Straight.”

Hot summer nights are upon us, and the question of the hour is, “What are we wearing?” Most would meet you with some simple suggestions. But here at FP, we think more is more. So I’m to not only give you an answer, but a full blown wear-test on one of my go-to summer staples. And it’s not just any old I wore this to one event and here’s what I think spiel...I’m talking New York City, 12 hours, one matching set.

Let’s set the scene for you. The task at hand is a 25th birthday excursion like no other: a jam-packed night in The Big Apple. And when I say jam-packed, I mean it, complete with an itinerary time-stamped to near perfection. In the words of Lady Gaga, it’s giving bus, club, ‘nother club, ‘nother club, no sleep. When thinking of what to wear, my favorite free-est set instantly came to mind. With tags still on and everything, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to test-drive it, and see how it would hold up on an unpredictable summer escapade. Could it shapeshift for the multiple backdrops we were going to find ourselves within that night? Could it hang for 12 hours without causing any wardrobe ailments? Read on to find out:

WHAT I WORE: GOOD FEELS

Before we hop into the play-by-play, let’s start with a breakdown. The test-subject of the evening was none other than the Good Feels Set from free-est. This matching two-piece set is from their new Good Feels collection of buttery soft, baby-rib styles, featuring a form-fitting, mock-neck tank and low-rise maxi skirt. It has the perfect contoured fit and buttery soft feel that I knew would give me everything I was looking for: sleek style, endless comfort, and obvious versatility. Paired back to a chunky belt and cowboy boots, I felt like I had created the perfect go-anywhere outfit that would leave me feeling cute, cool, and confident in any spontaneous scenario we walked into.

MY GOOD FEELS ITINERARY

4-6PM: HOTEL

Ahhhhh the getting-ready portion. Dare I say…one of the best parts of the night. Your makeup feels fresh, the playlist is perfect, and you get all the best pictures.

When I suited up in my free-est set, I knew I had made a good choice. It was still slightly chilly outside, but I knew it’d be hot inside wherever we went, so the tank-maxi combo was truly the golden ticket.

So far, so good in my opinion.

6:30-8:30PM: KARAOKE

Here’s where the first real test kicks in: two hours of karaoke. That means withstanding singing, dancing, and sweating. This part is where an outfit could really go wrong–too hot, too cold, too uncomfortable (okay, Goldilocks).

In the words of the aforementioned, it was just right. I wasn’t worried about adjusting anything, and knew if anyone took a video or picture I’d still look good. I’d say that’s the first W of the night for the Good Feels Set.

8:45-11PM: CELLAR DINNER

Singing and dancing show an outfit’s true colors, sure…but a sit-down dinner? That’s a going-out look’s worst enemy. Can you actually sit comfortably in it? How about for two and-a-half hours? Indulging is the goal, but will an unzip or popped button be the only relief when dessert is near?
<br Let’s just say every box was checked. The elastic waistband and low-rise cut of the skirt were my best friends during the 3-course feast, and the soft tank was not constricting at all. I knew the rest of the night would be a piece of cake (literally) after that.

11:30PM-12:30AM: DIVE BAR

Sometimes at this hour, an outfit runs its course. It doesn’t look like it did at 4PM, and pictures are totally out of the question. This was not the case for me and my free-est set, so we whipped the cameras out again for a impromptu photoshoot with our new edgy background. I’ll let the photo speak for itself here…looks like something straight out of an on-location FP shoot. ;)

1-2AM: DJ SET

In the karaoke room, a little boogie came over all of us. However, the task at hand was mainly singing (and very well might I add…). Now, at this DJ event, it was dance or go home. In the foggy, dimly lit venue, I donned a pair of sunglasses and surrendered to the vibe of the techy beats and colored lights.

While I was dancing, someone tapped me on the shoulder and said, “I love your outfit, can I take your picture?” The result is to the left.

So when we say compliments guaranteed, we absolutely mean it.

2-4AM: LAST STOP + PIZZA RUN

And we’ve made it to the homestretch! After our DJ set only two questions remained: what’s open and where do we get food?

Answer: a second (very empty) dive bar and obviously a New York slice (or two). To transition into the cool night, I threw on my light leather jacket, and we started our trek back to our temporary home for the moment.

Finally it was time to trade in my set for my big t-shirt. I looked at the clock and realized it was almost 4AM. I had worn the same outfit for TWELVE. HOURS. And I did not have one qualm or complaint. If that’s not convincing, I don’t know what is. What I do know is I will be buying this set in every color, and I think you should too. Honestly, this material makes me want to buy the rest of the collection.

My parting words? You’ll genuinely have to see it to believe it. Your cart is waiting…
