The Convertible free-est Top That Does It All

Our favorite way to outfit repeat? With a shape-shifting style, of course.

Why have six tops when you could have one? Just kidding…we highly encourage having more than one top—but it really does hit different when you find a style that can do basically everything. It’s playful, it’s exciting, and it’s almost like a styling challenge in itself. Like, Oh, there’s only five ways to wear? I’m gonna find the sixth, seventh, and eighth way. You’re catching my drift. So when this drapey, linen number from free-est named Coralyn hit my desk, I had no other choice but to put it to the test.

But first, let’s get to know it in it’s original form before we start transforming, converting, reshaping, etc. Crafted from a super special, drapey linen blend, this top features a “cape” silhouette, almost resembling a poncho with open sides and ruched tie details. It’s extremely versatile just like this, but I went on to find five more ways to change and rearrange it. I can’t wait to show you what these iterations look like and how I styled them, but let’s get real and talk price for a sec, something that’s definitely top-of-mind for many right now. At $60, with six ways to wear, that’s basically spending $10 per top—now that’s the kind of math I can get behind.

Okay, enough crunching numbers, let’s get to the fun part:

HOW TO STYLE THE CORALYN CONVERTIBLE LINEN CAPE TOP

VERSION 1: THE OG

In true cape form, used here as a free-flowing layer to add movement and another color block to this elevated outfit.

Paired With:
Good Feels Tube Set (mix & matched)
Arabella Heels
Holden Polarized Sunglasses
Sabina Semiprecious Stone Choker
VERSION 1: THE OG

VERSION 2: THE ONE-SHOULDER

Simply stick your arm through the boat neckline, and bam! You have a one-shoulder top. Here, I counteracted the billowy, asymmetrical hem with a skant and waist scarf for additional contrasting lines.

Paired With:
Aqualuna Linen Skants
Sabina Semiprecious Stone Choker
Essential Triangle Bandana
Havaianas Slim Square Flip Flops
VERSION 2: THE ONE-SHOULDER

VERSION 3: THE OTHER ONE-SHOULDER

Keep it free-flowing like the above, or utilize those ties to create a flattering empire waistline. The spell-binding shape and one-shoulder neckline give Greek goddess vibes, perfect for all your festival outfitting.

Paired With:
Mila Sequin Disco Cap
Cruise Oversized Aviator Sunglasses
Starcrossed Studded Belt
We The Free Bryce Equestrian Boots
We The Free Hit The Road Micro Shorts
VERSION 3: THE OTHER ONE-SHOULDER

VERSION 4: THE V-NECK PONCHO

All you have to do is shift the ties from your shoulders to your chest to create the perfect V-neckline. An extra bonus when worn this way is the fly-away slit you get, perfect for showcasing an added layer underneath or a peek of skin. Since we’re getting into summer, I opted for the latter. I also went big-on-big with my proportions and added a fun-colored balloon pant for the ultimate breezy combo.

Paired With:
Playa Party Balloon Pants
Starlight Jelly Flats
Cruise Oversized Aviator Sunglasses
VERSION 4: THE V-NECK PONCHO

VERSION 5: THE BATWING

Same vibe as the last one, but we’re taking those ties from the front to the back to cinch the waist and create these more defined, dolman-like batwing sleeves. You still get the fly-away detail in the front, but with a little more shape for a totally reinvented look.

(FYI: There’s also little sewn-in holes on either side, so you can string the strands through for an even more put-together look!)

Paired With:
Sun Dazed Cotton-Linen Striped Pants
Cruise Oversized Aviator Sunglasses
Havaianas Slim Square Flip Flops
Poncho Style

VERSION 6: THE BACKLESS HALTER

Okay, I’ll admit it: this is where I started to freestyle a bit. I was determined to push this top to its limits and get one more option out of it. I was thinking something sultry, something sleeveless, and then I got it; shifting the V-back all the way up to my neck created the perfect plunging neckline, and I let the fabric drape more to the front for that no-sleeve look. The result was lots of movement, no back in sight, and an overall funky option. I funked it up even more by hiking up my balloon pants to a crop and pairing with a statement anklet and chunky belt.

Paired With:
Playa Party Balloon Pants
Suede Hex Hip Belt
Havaianas Slim Square Flip Flops
Sabina Semiprecious Stone Choker
A line Style
