Summary
•Choose comfortable, functional clothing: Cotton tops and sweatpants work well for low-impact strength training, while sweat-wicking fabrics are better for especially sweaty workouts. Look for leggings or shorts with four-way stretch that stay securely in place.
•Prioritize stable footwear and staying warm: Choose sneakers with a low heel-to-toe drop and good traction for exercises like squats and deadlifts, and avoid overly cushioned running shoes. After your workout, a cozy hoodie can help you transition comfortably and keep muscles warm.
•Consider trying weights at home: Dumbbells and wearable weights can be useful options for starting or expanding a home strength-training routine.

What do you bench?
Kidding…sort of. It’s no secret that strength training has become a trending topic in the workout world, and we understand why. Building and maintaining muscle not only increases strength and simplifies daily tasks like climbing stairs and lifting everyday objects, but also has loads of other health benefits like improving bone density and cardiovascular health.
We talked about this in our breakdown of why you might want to add creatine to your weight lifting routine, but what about getting down to the task itself? What do you wear when it’s time to take to the gym (home or otherwise) and get down to the (literal) heavy lifting? We’ve got a few suggestions…

CONSIDER SOME COTTON
Do we really need to list out all the benefits of cotton activewear? Okay…we will: breathable, soft, less clingy, and most importantly, always comfortable. Since strength training is a low impact workout, wearing a cotton t-shirt or sweatpants is a great way to work distraction-free comfort into your lifting regimen. However, for very sweaty workouts, we’d recommend a sweat-wicking material, like something from our buttery-soft Never Better Collection.
SNEAKERS WITH STABILITY
It really does start from the bottom up, so look for sneakers with a low heel-to-toe drop and solid traction to give you a more stable base for squats, deadlifts, and presses. The thing to avoid? Very soft, highly cushioned running shoes. It may seem like this would be comfortable, but they can actually make you feel less stable when heavy lifting.
MUSCLE-WARMING MUST-HAVES
Post-workout calls for a cozy hoodie, especially after weight training. Not only does staying warm allow your body to gradually transition from exercise to rest, it can also help muscles feel less tight and help with injury prevention and soreness.
WANT SOME WEIGHT RECS?
We’ve got a whole slew of them. Whether you want to start with classic dumbbells or are interested in giving wearable weights a go (we tried a weighted vest and found it pretty effective), we’ve got a wide selection of weights so you can try strength training at home.
