Bonus: they're all under £50.

With the official start of summer only days away, I’ve noticed myself gravitating toward accessories to update my look. From the trend-forward and unexpected to the always tried-and-true, these outfit-transforming pick-me-ups can lend a small-but-significant impact to my look.

Effortless hairscarves recall period-era films while also offering a dose of print and color. Anklets, meanwhile, can take on many forms, but I’m swapping delicate chains for bolder, beaded styles. To balance more daring accessories, I intend to keep my summertime staples in constant rotation as well, swapping my signature sunnies with retro lenses and layering up scrunchies to sweep up my hair on humid days.

Printed Hairscarves
1. Printed Hairscarves. Ever since I saw the prairie headscarf start emerging in fashion editorials, I was secretly in love with the trend, but too afraid to try it! But, as the days grew hotter and sunnier, and more of my fashion idols started to wear them, I could no longer stay away. You can wear this look with almost anything and it shields your scalp for the sun.
2. Bold Anklets. Every summer, I buy an anklet and wear it continuously throughout the warm months. I feel incomplete without one. I just love the hint of sparkle and seeing it glisten in the sand is equally enchanting. I usually opt to wear them with sandals that don’t have straps that go around the ankle or mules. Bold beads and shell accents add a little something to the bare-ness.

Stackable Scrunchies
3. Stackable Scrunchies. I always get a little bit flustered with my hair in the summer. Here in Philadelphia, it can get pretty humid and when you have thick hair it can get a little...intense. So, in my bag, there will always be a scrunchie—multiple, in fact—just in case I need to put my hair in a top bun. They just also look cute around your wrist with your floral dress, inspired by my favorite French muses.
4. Layered Necklaces. And lastly, a necklace! I will always have a necklace on whether it’s a bright, fun surf-inspired one, or a delicate gold chain, I usually alternate between the two depending on my mood. But, usually, I will go for a multi-layered gold necklace, because when the sun hits it, it’s the ideal finishing touch.

Retro Sunnies
5. Retro Sunnies. Sunnies are important… you’ve got to protect your eyes on sun-drenched days! I love these classic black ones and their wide frames. They remind me of Hollywood starlets back in the 50s, and, if you love reading a book in the sun as I do, a straw hat is key to keep the sun out of your eyes.
