It felt like snuggling a baby lamb.
Or was it more like cuddling a fluffy cloud?
Whatever it was: it was soft. I couldn’t help but pick it up, willing its coziness to envelop me. That is, until—
THUD.
My vision of fluffy clouds evaporated, overcome by gravity, collapsing into a pillowy pile before me.
I guess that’s what a 15-pound weighted blanket feels like.

The supremely soft throw, Sunday Citizen’s Crystal Weighted Blanket, was a new addition to my bedtime routine. (We all know how devoted I am to beauty sleep.)
The science behind weighted blankets was already intriguing. The weight — they call it “pressure therapy” — lowers your heart rate when you’re feeling stressed, inducing a feeling of blissful calm. It’s also been linked to better sleep quality, reduced anxiety, and improved mood. (Hello, sign me up.)
But the thing is: lots of brands make weighted blankets these days. What makes Sunday Citizen different? They decided to up the ante by supplementing the tiny glass pearls with thousands of clear quartz, rose quartz, and amethyst beads. (There’s a ton of cushioning to keep everything firmly in place.) The brand combined the study-backed benefits of a weighted blanket with the energy-harnessing effects of crystals. Together, they claimed, it would result in “the most restorative sleep of my life.”
So you know I was sold.
The first evening I used my blanket, I heaved it onto my bed — tossing 15 pounds is no small feat. But, oh was it worth it. I spread it out smoothly over my bed (almost like a second duvet cover) and crawled underneath.
As someone who prefers to sleep in light-as-air linen, with the AC blasting, one leg hanging off the bed, I was nervous the blanket would be suffocatingly hot. But not so! Rather, it felt like a very eveningly distributed hug. (So comforting!) Warm, for sure, but if the super plush exterior is too much for you, you can remove it and use the weighted blanket solo for all the targeted pressure, but none of the toasty warmth.
I proceeded to drift into my deepest sleep, um, ever.
Typically, I toss and turn, flinging sheets and pillows across the room, emerging from my rest, well, decidedly unrested. This time, I felt weighted in place, cradled by my mattress. My instinct to roll around, repositioning myself, was dulled as I was calmly lulled to rest.
So, I bet you’re curious about the crystals. (I was too.) Sunday Citizen says they chose to add amethyst, clear quartz and rose quartz for their calming and soothing effects. They explain:
“Amethyst is a natural tranquilizer; it relieves stress and soothes negative emotions. Clear quartz is considered to be the master of all healing crystals due to its ability to magnify the vibrations of other crystals. Rose quartz is the stone of universal love.”
Now, can I chalk up my restful slumber entirely to the crystals? That’s doubtful. But in synergy with targeted pressure enveloping me in an ever-so-calming hug? It certainly didn’t hurt. I let a zen-induced state wash over me. And let’s be honest: there’s something so mystical and alluring about draping yourself in a blanket of crystals every evening. That alone fosters some sweet-dreams juju.
Fast forward to today and I’ve used my weighted blanket every night since I brought it home. During a time when a restorative slumber is more essential than ever, it’s been a game-changing addition to my nighttime ritual.
