In the words of the queen of the holidays, Mariah Carey, “It’s tiiiiiiiime!”
And for us, that means time for gift guides. The holidays will be here before you know it, and with all so many different people to shop for, this time of year has a tendency to feel overwhelming, especially when you’re gifting for very specific personalities. Luckily, we’ve been there, done that, and (literally) wrote the gift guide on it.
So, if you’re shopping for a hard-to-please loved one, or maybe you pulled a tough name in the family Secret Santa, or you’ve simply just run out of ideas—you’ve come to the right place.
Happy (and easy) gifting.
Your “No Worries, I Got It” Boss, Who You’re Starting To Believe Might Never Sleep At All
She’s in back-to-back meetings all day, sending emails, troubleshooting, managing, and ideating. And apparently she also runs every morning—where does she find the time? You’re not sure she ever takes a lunch, or if she survives solely on coffee. Help her make her caffeine habit more of a ritual so she can slow down and enjoy it. A crafty handmade mug that’s just for her, rather than another disposable cup. Pair it with a cozy, seasonally-inspired syrup, perfect for winter lattes. I like this one from surrup not only for its slightly sweet notes, but because it’s made with wholesome ingredients to create a true “feel good” ritual. It’ll show you see her and know the little things can help the day run smoothly–and thoughtfully.
Your Mom Who "Doesn't Need Anything" But Also Taught You Never To Show Up Empty-Handed
If your mom is like mine and says, “The only gift I could ever ask for is my children’s happiness,” then I share your pain in trying to find a present that somehow suffices. But perhaps you can gift her a little happiness of her own–a beauty gift set like this one that contains four bioactive face masks, so she can carve out some truly rejuvenating face-time. Or a gift that keeps giving, like our FP Beauty Advent Calendar filled with 24 of our FP Beauty team’s tried-and-true products that they swear by in their own self-care routines. Every day she can open something new to indulge in and get excited about. It’ll definitely put a smile on her face to know you’re thinking about her joy too.
Your Grandma Who You Absolutely Cannot Give Yet Another Candle (For The Third Year In A Row)
At this point I’ve gotten my Grandma so many candles that she has guessed my gift was a candle when I handed her the box, so it’s time to shift my gifting strategy. I like the idea of catering to her sentimentality, so this year I’ll consider getting her something that feels nostalgic. She’d love these vintage-inspired board games, especially since we used to play them when I was little. Bonus that they tuck away nicely on a bookshelf and make for a unique display. Or how about an ornament that reminds me of of all the summers we’ve spent at the beach, like this beach bag. And if those don’t work, there’s certainly nothing wrong with giving her another candle—I love this one because it stirs memories of the holidays at her house with a real Christmas tree.
Your Little Brother Who Will Tell You Your Gift Is In The Mail, But Probably Forgot To Get You Anything
Sometimes a little brother is just going to act like a little brother (i.e. doesn’t put much effort into gift-giving), but of course you still love him. Give him a subtle reminder with a leather-bound notebook. This one is handmade in Atlanta, GA, and boasts handpainted edges and rounded corners that marries both refinement and practicality. It’ll make him feel like you don’t just see him as your younger brother, but someone deserving of everyday luxuries. Besides, Free People might be the last place from where he expects to get a gift, so he’ll get the hint that it’s your favorite store.
Your Significant Other Who Is Shockingly Good At Gift-Giving And You’re Determined To Wow This Year
Just when you think you have the perfect gift, they outdo you–every year. This holiday, go in with a strategy. (You can borrow this one from me: the more, the merrier.) Cozy is my word du jour this year, so I’m filling a whole box with soft and luxurious essentials like cashmere gloves, some comfy socks, a knit beanie, and maybe even some must-have moccasins to pamper them during the winter months. And I'll be bundling it all into one of our printed gift boxes for a little extra TLC, from start to finish.
Your Aspirational Aunt Who Always Brings You An Incredible Niche Gift From Her Travels Abroad
She has impeccable style; she’s seen and done it all, and her worldly gifts can feel impossible to top. If you want to impress her, consider getting ahead of a trend that hasn’t yet entered her periphery. Right now, everyone at FP Home Office is obsessed with these knit bandanas–they go with everything and offer a winter-ready take on a timeless classic. Or go big with a knit shawl. It could make for the perfect travel companion for her next trip.
Your Daughter Who Has Developed Impeccable Taste (You Hope She Got It From You)
Once upon a time she was a little girl, and now she shows up in the coolest outfits with a style all her own. A pair of heritage-inspired We The Free boots, like the Bodhi, strike a perfect balance between effortless and elevated. The unique lacing details up the back make them stand out, just like her. Or give her something that she can wear every day and be reminded of you. This moonstone ring utilizes a technique called the “Wishing Well,” that gives the illusion of water running beneath the stone’s setting and harkens back to childlike wonder.
Your Friend Who’s An FP Window-Shopper, But Always Talks Herself Out Of Treating Herself
There are things from Free People you know she covets; she’s even signed up for a couple of waitlists, and you’ve seen her in our Instagram likes. If I had to bet, she probably has a tab opened of our best-selling Emerson Bags, staring at it longingly trying to decide what color she wants (join the club!). Show her she’s worth it and that she deserves to get what she wants by surprising her with the bag of her dreams. Now, the only decision you have to make is whether you should get her the Baby Emerson or the full size Emerson tote bag. Oh, and of course, what color. (Psst…check back throughout the holiday season for a few surprises.)
Your Furry BFF Who Can’t Reciprocate But Still Deserves The Best
A good reminder that gift-giving is not transactional; your pup gives you love 24/7, 365, so of course they should be celebrated as well. They would likely settle for a bag of treats, but it’s the holidays… so why not get them something fun. A lick mat provides the perfect setting to serve them a special treat like Greek yogurt or peanut butter (bonus: it occupies them for a while!), and this one looks like a charcuterie board, which potentially means they’ve earned a place at the family table. I also love this trio of cat toys made with natural loofah and plant-dyed materials to ante up playtime. And, this brass-and-rope pet collar feels especially crafty and unique.
Your Sister Who Is Basically The Human Equivalent Of “If I Like It, I’ll Buy It In Another Color”
It’s truly a blessing that my sister and I share very similar tastes. So with that I’ll admit there have been many times I’ve gotten a gift with her in mind, only to covet it too much to give it away (perhaps I should save her shopping for last). Personally, I have been eyeing the See Me V-Neck Knit Pullover because it is SO soft and cozy, in a cloudlike knit the design team describes as “lighter than air”. Our stylists have been pairing it over a bralette to peek out from the shoulder, so I’ll probably throw in an eye-catching lace one, too. Now, I just have to decide which color I’m willing to gift.
