Freebird by Steven
just relax about laces they are not meant to be perfect but they can help with fit .... comfortable and amazing looking on .....i got the olive color and i have been hunting this color for awhile .....i got the 10 normally wear a 91/2 in frye and 40 in euro...fits perfect!!! highly recommend!!
I got these in the olive suede in a sz 9 since it was the last one in a store and the sz 8 was sold out. The size 8 came back in stock right after my first order. Before the sz 9's came the 8's arrived and they were almost impossible to squeeze on at the ankle with thin socks on. My other freebird boots fit perfect in size 8. I would say it's the correct length of the foot to be a size 8 or 9, but the width is the issue. Too narrow throughout, mostly on the heel, and where the zipper ends at the ankle. So I decided to keep the 9.
These BOOTS are DOPE!
FINALLY a well made boot designed for the narrow footed, petite calved body type. I am a size 7. I naturally wear thin socks. These boots are not designed for women with thicker calfs or thick socks, period. & thats ok, most standard boots aren't made for women with my body size. My calf (at the widest point) measures 12 1/4 inches. These boots measure 12 1/2. My foot, bone to bone at the widest point is 3 1/2 inches wide. these boots have just enough room on either side for comfortability, also their brand spankin new, so they will maximize comfortability as i wear them. I prefer to lace mine all the way up, so i fed the lace up to be able to make a bow at the top. Worth the price because the materials are well crafted, real & that will last you a long time.
What I love is that I can unlace the top few holes and wear them more loose which is my current favorite way to wear them. I am concerned that I would need longer laces if I'm going to lace them all the way up. I guess my calves must be a little larger than average (mine are 15"). But I prefer the unlaced look (see my photo). Like all the other Freebirds I own, these are quality leather. They are suple and easy to move in (not stiff). The toe box is not too narrow. They do take time to put on. The zipper is nice but I don't really use it because even unzipped, the laces have to be loosened. I own several pairs of Freebirds and have an 8 in all of them with a rounded toe like this one. Fits just like all the other round toe Freebirds in size 8. If you're a half size, size up. You can easily add an insert (the gel ones are great) to get the fit you need. I have the black (would love the grey too). I would like it if the black were more distressed but that will happen naturally the more I wear them. And I will wear them tons! The peek of burgundy suede in the back is really unique. Another great Freebird!
Definitely the most money I've ever spent on a pair of boots, but worth every penny! I wear an 8, so that's what I bought, and they fit perfectly. They do require some extra time and work to get into and out of, but I'm able to put them on and take them off without undoing the laces. I bought the wine color, and I have worn them every day since I got them. Best boots ever!
Maybe I just got the faulty pair because all the reviews I read raved about how great they are. First:, like several reviewers mention the calves are snug but acceptable for athletic gals if you don't expect them to lace all the way up. Second, the olive is a very washed out brownish olive; and the contrast shown on the website was not evidenced on the pair I received. Third, the footbed is very difficult to get your foot into. I had to jam mine in; though once in it fit perfectly. I am a true 7.5 but buy 8 boots. These were 8 and the foot length and width was exact to my foot. Finally the pair I received were scuffed and loose -- the suede on top of one of the boots was roughed up, and one of the leather wraps hung loosely/badly.on the other. For the price And label I expected much better quality. They are being returned sap.
These are fantastic boots. Got them in the olive and get compliments every time I wear them out. I read the reviews and still went with my regular size, 9, as I am on the small side of 9. They are still a bit tight, but after I wore them the first time, they loosened up just enough that though tight, they are not uncomfortable.
great for skinny calves!!
I'm usually between a size 8.5 and a 9. I prefer 9 in boots so I can wear thicker socks. I got a 9 in the brown color and they fit like an 8.5 so a half size up would've been better but they still fit okay. I am 5'11" and thin, so my long bony calves are always way too skinny for tall boots and they look floppy and awkward. I am so excited about these because they lace up so that I can actually tighten them! I actually hardly had to cinch them at all and there is just enough string to lace them to the very top holes, so if you have fuller calves than me I could see them being too tight or the laces too short. You don't have to lace them all the way though. The brown color is better than pictured in my opinion. The distressing isn't as pronounced. I included one picture to show the height/laces/fit, and another in the sunlight for color. The soles don't really offer any support and there is absolutely no traction on the bottom. Overall though I am thrilled with them!
Wine Size 9
I'm typically a size 8, and after reading reviews on quite a few sites for these boots I decided to size up to the 9 and they fit close to perfect. Being 1 whole size bigger, they are slightly roomy, but can definitely be worn with thicker socks to fill the space if they feel slippery inside, absolutely no problems with skinny jeans and putting them on is super easy, the different colored leather behind the laces expands and contracts with how tight the laces are, you easily have a couple inches of room to re-lace and figure out your calf size, i can imagine if I'd ordered an 8 they'd be juuuusst the right size on my foot or could only be worn with thin socks or barefoot. If you are on the smaller/thinner foot size of your typical size get your actual size and you should be fine, if you are a 1/2 size or bigger/wider foot of your size get 1 full size up. The Wine color is BEAUTIFUL, absolutely amazing, mine came in true to the 1st picture color, dark burgundy, closer to purple-hued vs the last picture which comes off more Red to me. Only gripe is the laces on 1 boot are wayyyy looser on 1 so they want to fall off the heel while the other boot is fine so it'll need some adjustment to get the looser ankle laces to look the same. If they come out with a Black or Brown suede I'll definitely get those too!
