Not for the faint hearted.
I had these boots in my Wishlist for ever but could not justify the full price, so when I saw them on sale I pounced on them. I got them in Novello red & they look just as amazing as in the pics & feel incredibly comfortable on. The leather is soft & quite distressed which I adore. They make an impact statement - not for the faint hearted. I haven't actually worn them out yet as it's summer here & too hot so I can only review them from trying them briefly at home. They seem TTS & fit my legs perfectly to stay up. I'm 5'3" so I like them best pulled up to maximumise leg length. Scrunched down boots make me look shorter. I have another pair of great OTK boots which with time & wear the leather stretched to slide down my legs. They really drive me crazy now so I don't wear them anymore. I hope this won't happen with the Ravyn or I'll be very upset & kicking myself later (hence 4 stars instead of 5) I guess time will tell, but for now I'm totally in love with Ravyn.
I have been on the fence about the over-the-knee boot, not sure it is the best look on me as my thighs are not my best asset. however the leather of these boots is irresistible! I almost returned them due to styling challenges (I'm still working on this!# but couldn't bring myself to because they are so beautiful. the leather is so soft, and they fit perfectly from shoe/foot bed all the way up to the lower thigh, figured they were meant for me #I'm a solid 8.5 and ordered the 39). :) I highly recommend, esp if you are looking for this style boot. also the black is more charcoal but I love it as I have solid black tall boots already.
These boots arrived today and I just love them. The red is amazing and is close to the colour in the picture. I especially like to scrunch them down a bit. They fit true to size. I will definitely be keeping them and can't wait to wear them.
THESE BOOTS ARE CHEAP!
The material of the heel / sole is super cheap looking and after only wearing them once- they showed considerable wear to the rubber sole. *THE PHOTOS ON THIS WEBSITE ARE VERY MISLEADING! Also, I ordered them in the black color and they look more blue then black- ugh! I called customer service, however even though I've spent thousands of dollars on Free People merchandise- they told me since I'd worn them I was S**T OUT OF LUCK. +NO IN- STORE CREDIT- NADA!
Amazing fit but...
First of all, the fit of these boots is amazing. It is very soft and not stiff facing front. Really shows off your legs and they are nice and roomy for scrunching low or wearing long and wearing over jeans. Also, really lightweight and comfortable for a tall boot. I'm in between an 8.5 and 9 and the size 39 fit me perfectly. The one thing that is really bothering me is that I got the brown "Oro" color and they came to me very yellow/gray and faded beige looking. The fading on the boots is alot more extreme tye dye looking than in the picture..and far from the rich cognac brown color that is pictured. So now I'm on the fence about returning them because they are so expensive but not the look I was going for.
Not OTK - Don't Stay Up on Thin Legs
I got these boots in brown. I usually wear a 9.5 US so I ordered the 40. They arrived and I noticed a narrow fit from my arch to toes, so I wore two thick pairs of socks and put my hair dryer on hot to stretch out the leather. It worked. My only complaint with these and the Jeffrey Campbell FP boots I bought last year, is that if they come in soft leather, they WILL NOT retain an over the knee height. They sink, often at different heights on each leg. I wear them scrunched down like in the product photos. See the photo attached.
Raving about the Ravyn, except....
Another AS 98 hit, beautifully crafted, elegantly simple in styling, so the over the knee part is not cheesy looking. The color, I got the dark grey, is fantastic. The boot itself is very comfy, a little loose for my US 9, more on the elegant low heel side, unlike most other AS 98 which are often rustic. Now here is the downside, for people like me, with very very slender legs. The shaft circumference, in 40 at least, is huge! I could literally stick my other leg into the boot I had on... Bummer, because like I said before the boot is a classic beauty with a little bad girl edge.
These are lovely, supple boots, incredibly comfortable and a gorgeous colour - the red is a little deeper than the picture, making them a bit more versatile. I am sad to be sending them back, but just can't justify keeping more than one pair of red boots (tried the Joe and the Novak, going with the Novak), especially with these being so expensive. The quality is there, though. There's plenty of room around the calf and knee. Unusually for me, I found that they were actually rumpling down around the knee a little, giving the same fit as in the model even though I do not possess model legs. Fairly true to EU sizing. The 41 fits me and compares directly in size with the Joe in 11, the Novak 41, Backstage 11, Perspective Heel 10, Bed Stu Manchester Tan 9 or Teak 9.5, Bed Stu Whiskey Sunset 40 (Bed Stu sizing seems very erratic, even in the same design and colour sometimes),
Best boots ever
Bought these in the blackish color, i am a size 8 - 8 1/2 and bought the 39, they fit perfect, I am 125lbs, 5' 6 1/2" and usually boots are quite loose at the calf but these are actually fitting really good, not to baggy which is why i want another pair, possible the redi ones. If you are contemplating the money, they are worth it. I have had a knee replacement last year and wanted some flat boots that were very fashionable and i LOVE them. You can roll them down, leather is soft, or you can scrunch them down, or wear them high on the knee. I cant wait to wear them :)
AS98 makes wonderfully unique footwear and these boots are no exception. They are very cool for an OTK book, but for me, the black leather is maybe a bit too "chalky" for me to keep - considering I was hoping for more of a "true black - with mild distressing". Quality-wise, there is no comparison. The leather is thin, but sturdy - and very flexible...instantly comfortable. One more thing to consider is that due to the boots being constructed with a zipper on the side, there is no room to 'adjust your fit' when the boot is all the way on...meaning if you do not have model-thin legs (as shown in the photos, they will not fit like the do online, but more "fitted" at the top of the boot... I'm still on the fence, however, regarding keeping them, because I wanted a true black, and for the price, they may not be worth it to me - though they are truly gorgeous and ultra-high quality boots. Overall, as long as you are aware of the color and the difference in fit, these boots are truly gorgeous. One more thing - I wear a size 9 US, and compared to other AS98 boot reviews I've seen - saying this brand runs large, these do not. I purchased size 40, and the fit was perfect. The 39's would not have worked in these - or any other AS98's that I own...
