Team FP took our twisted jeans for a spin…and they’ve stayed in our rotation since May.
As the father of a daughter who works in fashion, my dad goes to great lengths better understand the world in which I chose to immerse myself. He sends me articles, we have discussions over dinner about shoes and silhouettes he cannot believe are back in style. There’s one topic that completely stumps him though, that he brings up quite frequently: women’s jeans. The questions swirl through his mind like a tornado—what’s in style? What’s out of style? Do you wear what looks best on you or what’s trending? There are too many to choose from…HELP!
I can’t lie and say he’s not onto something. The head of the inventor of denim would be spinning on its axis if they saw just how many iterations of their simple, durable creation exist today. Skinny, straight, wide, low, high…the list goes on and on. While it’s easy to suffer from exhaustion of choice here (like my father is experiencing by proxy), I personally think the goal of jeans, and whichever one occupies the spotlight currently, is the same: a pair that looks good on the most amount of people, and remains one of the most versatile pieces in their closet. Dad, you can take a deep breath now, I think I answered one of your (many) questions.
The ‘80s had ultra high-rise and simple straight legs. The early 2000s had the lowest of low with a subtle flare. The 2020s have relaxed, baggy, sometimes even barrel. And in 2026, the newcomer on the scene, I’m happy to report, I think truly embodies the sentiment I expressed above. I know, big statement…but after I made my entire team here at FP try to prove my point by wearing these jeans for upwards of four months, I can say it with my chest.

WHAT ARE TWISTED SEAM JEANS?
You probably know a thing or two about barrel jeans. Picture that shape—now, think about if they had a really cool sister…
Here’s the twist: the curved outseam you’re used to seeing on a barrel jean lands at the top of the foot instead of the outside of the ankle. The result? A leaner fit through the hips and a relaxed, sculptural look from the knee down. This also forms a new favorite leg shape, the arc leg, defined by this slightly differing distribution of volume that’s channeled more towards the calf than the knee. A much more universal silhouette, in my personal opinion, but don’t take my word for it—let’s hear from our Jean Expert, Landry, Senior Denim Merchandiser:
“We’re really excited about twisted seams.The We The Free design team has been incorporating this detailing more and more, as it can elevate a classic silhouette to make it feel more modern while still giving a heritage /vintage feel. We love the elongated leg look that results, and the really cool wash details on seam lines, and the “twist” makes that detail even more visible than it would be on a straight seam. We’re really loving how this construction makes an everyday staple like a jean stand out.”

HOW TO STYLE TWISTED SEAM JEANS
I consider myself a low, baggy jean connoisseur at this point. About four years ago I discovered this silhouette as one that best accentuates my curvy figure, and truly haven't looked back. So when I saw the Fable's construction, I knew these would be right up my alley. The only thing I was skeptical of was the proximity to barrel jeans. It was a train I never hopped on because I felt like the bowed shape would overtake my whole figure. When I learned about twisted seams and the more "arc" leg shape, I was fascinated to see if they would land where barrel jeans did or open me up to whole new world of denim to add to my collection...
Once I put them on, to say I was shocked was an understatement. I'm a find-a-pair-and-wear-them-to-the-ground kind of girl, so I always get nervous to try new ones. I can confidently say these are being added to that constant rotation. Perfectly baggy in all the right places, in a comfortable rigid denim that doesn’t feel restricting, and just low enough so I'm not suffocating or pulling my pants up every five seconds. The inseam was a little long for me, but I'm not shy with my scissors, so I went right in and gave them a raw hem, cut to my perfect length! I genuinely can't wait to wear these 24/7.
I tasked my fellow copywriters with trying out the Fable, and here are some of their takeaways:
Once I put them on, to say I was shocked was an understatement. I'm a find-a-pair-and-wear-them-to-the-ground kind of girl, so I always get nervous to try new ones. I can confidently say these are being added to that constant rotation. Perfectly baggy in all the right places, in a comfortable rigid denim that doesn’t feel restricting, and just low enough so I'm not suffocating or pulling my pants up every five seconds. The inseam was a little long for me, but I'm not shy with my scissors, so I went right in and gave them a raw hem, cut to my perfect length! I genuinely can't wait to wear these 24/7.

Color us convinced! Sometimes, another new trending denim silhouette is a great thing (cough, Dad, cough…).
