Printed dropwaist tunic features a surplice V-neckline with a hidden snap closure. Front slip pockets and elastic cuffs complete the look.
Beautiful/awful, at the same time
First the pros: this dress is made of a substantial fabric with a nice drape and heft (not gauzy). The pattern and color (in the black) are as-shown in the website pics, and in my usual size (L—I'm 5'7 and a 12 on top) fit as shown on the model. Now the cons: it's really too short to be a dress on me, and kind of too long to wear as a tunic top. It's uncomfortably short to wear with nothing underneath, but with jeans or leggings, it kind of looks like---a dress over pants. The design of the bodice is just bad (sorry). The front of this dress has a deep V neckline that extends (open) all the way to the dropped waist. The single snap closure is just wonky—it looks like it's an afterthought, and it's not substantial enough for the length of the opening it's meant to hold closed. Plus, where the snap is placed, it makes the dress almost look like it's pulling across the bust, because the width of the V-opening is so wide at the point where it snaps together. As others have pointed out, the bodice also gaps open, below the snap, when you sit. I tried it unsnapped, with a tank underneath, but that too looks off because the V is so deep. I think the solution is to sew it closed, from the waist to mid-bustline, and If I decide to keep this then that's what I'll do with it. At full price, I wouldn't bother but at the sale price it may be worth tweaking.
Beautiful dress, poor quality
I got this dress in the purple and love the design and style. The only problem was the very small snap that keeps it together broke within the first 10 minutes of wearing the dress. Thankfully I was wearing a tank top underneath, as you should if you want to avoid flashing people any time you bend over. I put a few safety pins in to hold it together and that has seemed to work so far. Overall, I like the dress enough to keep it but the quality is really disappointing.
Love & Hate
To begin with, I love, love, love the dress! It definitely is a beautiful piece and it fits your body well, even if you have curves. I ordered the Black Combo and the pictures on the site are definitely misleading. The dress has a blue tint that is noticeable. It still looks great but be warned, the dress is not a true black and beige color. It is also much roomier than expected. I was worried that it would be too short to be worn as a dress, but I ordered my normal size. I'm happy that I did. Because it is roomier than expected, it is actually long enough as well. It looks great with or without leggings/tights/jeans underneath.
Frayed along the neckline
I got this as a present and loved it! I hand washed ii and hung to dry. I wore it again and it started frayomg along the neckline, like the stitches came out. It frayed about 3 inches in a spot that you can see so I can't even see it. My whole closet is FP and most have a frayed look, but i cant get away with that look on this dress. love this dress, but very disappointed.
Didn't pass the Sit-down test !!!
I tried this item on and it looked pretty good, A little too low cut for me, but I thought I could put another snap in higher up. BUT, as soon as I sat down, the whole area from the snap down to the hip line, GAPED OPEN, NOT a pretty sight!!! And the low cut gaped open too.. Ughh! See my photo. However, the print and the color (black/cream) were very nice. And the two slip pockets on the hip seam on the front/side of item would weigh the dress down EVEN more depending on what you put in them. The fabric was OK, but seeing as I could wear this as a dress being 5'0" tall, from the hip down to the hem was semi-sheer in certain lighting. Sizing seems to be true. So, it is going back ! This is the 1st time I've bought a garment on FP, but will try other styles.
finally something long enough
I'm 5'8" and have a real hard time finding FP things that are long enough to actually wear out on the street and not have to fearfully hold the hem down if I feel a gentle breeze. Normally I would wear a size small, but I tried a medium and that gave me the length I needed. The pattern is a little more pixelated in person, and there is a good deal of room in the area above the waist, so a cute bralette or tank would be needed underneath. I tried dinner out without one, and yes... there was full out undeniable nip slip. In the end though, I'm very happy I got this. It's comfy, playful, not over the top, and I think can be dressed up or down. Just stay aware of your nipples.
I have this in the black combo and deep rose combo and I love both. I'm normally a medium but I tend to size up in FP because I'm large chested (36DDD). I got both in large but could've gotten them in medium. They are still really awesome, though! So light, airy and comfy! Highly recommend these and think they'd work great for any body type. I'm a bit curvy and it hides my problem areas! :)
Is it me?
I'm sure that this tunic would look great on someone. However, I'm not that person. The fabric is beautiful and the color is fine, but the style isn't flattering on me. Maybe I'm too curvy for such a boxy fit. It could be that I'm just not tall enough to pull off so much pattern and so much length at the same time. Whatever the reason, I'm going to pass on this one.
I love the goldenrod combo I received but I agree that the fit is a bit awkward and the bust area is not the best design. It takes a bit of adjusting and not sure yet if it is worth the time spent making it all work . I would recommend it for someone who is on the slender side as the drop waist is also tricky around the hips. It's a very lovely print with a complicated fit.I am leaning toward keeping it and working it as I do really love the print .
I don't think so! The low cut is fine, runs a little small, I would size up to get the funky look on the model, I should have ordered extra large instead of large as it pulls weird and the drop waist hits in the wrong place. Not worth exploring further.
