Ethiopian cross pendant on a velvet choker. Pendant made from the wax-relief method, breaking the mold each time. Each cross is a unique original design and each design is indigenous to an area within Africa. Traditionally used as a sign of faith, each pendant represents the region from where the design originated. Adjustable chain with lobster-clasp closure. Designed in Gojjam, Africa and made in America.
I bought this in the red colour and it's exactly like the pictures. The cross hasn't tarnished as I've worn it and the materials look like they're generally good quality. Only thing I would warn anyone looking into buying it is that like most chokers from Free People, it's still pretty small even on the longest clasp. It fits me fine but I have a small neck.
Not worth the money
I received this necklace recently, and although it is very pretty, it is VERY VERY small. Good thing the "velvet" fabric of the choker is stretchy or it would only fit a baby. Additionally it arrived broken, although I didn't notice it until I looked at it in its online picture. It has the lobster-claw clasp, but the other end is missing. I would send it back but I threw away the paperwork. NOT worth the money.

I had to get this because as a pre teen in the mid 90s my mother refused to let me get a choker, which I desperately wanted (something about them being a symbol of female bondage...). So I am very happy the trend is back in and this choker is a very 90s one with the thick velvet and slightly goth cross. Symbolism aside, I am enjoying this choker. The necklace is well made, I got the white/gold, the velvet is substantial and slightly stretchy which is good because this definitely runs small. That probably depends on the size of your neck to some degree. Very pretty piece!
Beautiful but short
I bought the white and gold version of this necklace, and it looks wonderful in person, like something out of an expensive museum shop. The band and chain are short, though. Most chokers don't fit my narrow neck; this one does, but there's not much room to give.
So I ordered the black velvet choker and when I received it I was surprised by two things. One, I had thought that the cross described with the black color was described as silver, but I received it in gold. I think it is a beautiful necklace and I like it very much, but I would have preferred it in silver with the black. Also, the velvet material is very stretchy and although looks and feels like velvet, it doesn't seem to actually be a velvet material. I think it is more of a stretchy velour material. There is not a lot of chain and even though I have a long tin neck, it is a snug fit.
